How we got UPK  Got Familiar  Got Organized  Got Buy-In  Got Smart  Got Busy

 Got Familiar What is the PeopleSoft User Productivity Kit (UPK)? –Software for recording and playing back simulated online processes –Publish simulations as course guides, job aids, online training, in-application help files, glossaries, test scripts –Based on OnDemand Navigator –Purchase one or both: software & vanilla content

How can we use UPK simulations? –See It! –Try It! –Know It? –Do It! UPK can be used to record from applications other than PeopleSoft, though some additional work is usually involved Got Familiar (Live DEMO)

Know It? mode can be used to track user results for trending or testing But…results tracking in Know It? mode requires Microsoft SQL server –Anticipate a change with future releases of UPK More flexibility would make Know It? mode a very valuable tool for tracking end user problem areas during training and after Go Live Got Familiar – TIP!

 Got Organized Created standards guidelines for online and paper documentation Updated standards as additional issues were encountered –Handout: “UPK Standards & Settings - eUMB Financials”

Develop your standards document keeping in mind that UPK can be used for other applications, too –Blackboard –Banner –Some Microsoft Office applications PeopleSoft UPK and OnDemand Navigator differ in their object recognition Got Organized – Tip!

 Got Buy In A demo is worth a thousand words! UPK’s capabilities are difficult for people to picture and/or believe in until they see it LIVE Demo, demo, demo! Brief demos helped us gain support from - Executives- Key Managers - Project Team- Functional Process Owners - Consultants- Departmental End Users

We conducted demos using simulations that we created, including one built during class Seeing UMB demos helps audiences understand the power UPK - especially when we mentioned the demo simulation was created during class Got Buy In – Tip!

 Got Smart Attended UPK training class Used “vanilla” Job Aids to learn the PS application… –Power Users –Testers –New trainers Delivered UPK tutorials used for –Process Owner reviews –Hands-on introductory demos (for the Player)

Job Aids are also useful to trainers –while practicing for class –as training outlines during class –Central Office training Knowing that Job Aids will be available on Go Live Day reduced user anxiety Got Smart – Tip!

 Got Busy UPK is a multi-purpose tool that is valuable throughout the project life cycle… –prototyping to testing –pre to post Go-Live support –great tool for end user training, too! Here are the pros and cons as we see them… –Handout: “Using UPK vs. A Training Database”

Got Busy Change…it’s a “Good Thing”, Martha! –Using simulations drives changes to course structure and classroom delivery –UPK gives you the ability to quickly address and communicate post-Go Live changes Basis for all training documents is updated when you update the simulation to reflect change(s) Publish updated simulation & documents to web Email link to user community

Have a plan to prepare your audience and your trainers for changes to… –course structure –training delivery format –hands-on activities –course length –post Go Live support Got Busy – Tip!

It’s survival of the fittest on Go Live Day …only the strong will survive. That’s why UPK with its 10 essential benefits should be a part of every USM trainer’s game plan. Got UPK?

…got UPK? Yeah... got UPK!
