Supports professional recognition as registered science technician or registered scientist. An alternative work-based training route to the traditional academic route to graduate status.

A programme that recognises the current skills of your laboratory, scientific and technical employees and provides motivation to achieve professional status. Flexibility to allow Apprentices to remain in the role they have entered or have the opportunity to progress within the company, gaining further experience and qualifications as they develop. Higher Apprentices are focussed individuals with a commitment to developing practical skills alongside the high level academic knowledge needed for challenging technical roles in hi-tech industries. A new way to recruit and train laboratory, scientific and technical employees.

Work-based HND/C Diplomas through a local FE College. Choice of Higher Apprenticeship Levels: Level 4 in 2 years Level 5 in 3 years Professional Recognition: Registered Science Technician Registered Scientist

Exceptional Talent, Exceptional Skills The Higher Apprenticeship costs: Individuals may apply for a student loan to contribute to tuition fees. Programme costs set by the training provider. Framework delivery costs set by TAS. Government incentive grants to encourage employment of apprentices may be available through your training provider. Support for professional registration fees and framework delivery costs is available through the Developing Science Professionals Programme up to March 2013.

Exceptional Talent, Exceptional Skills The Higher Apprenticeship is supported by: Technical Apprenticeship Service (TAS) Manage delivery of the Higher Apprenticeship. Help specify, advertise and recruit apprentices and support internal HR & training facilities. Help source local and national training provision. Contractually can employ the apprentice on behalf of the employer to overcome any ‘headcount’ issues and reduce any perceived ‘risk’. National Apprenticeship Services (NAS) Quality assured national framework. Advertise for Higher Apprentices through apprentice matching service. Recognition of your company training through national awards schemes.
