2 Monday | September 15 th Topic/ Focus: Farmers Alliances & The National Grange AIM #10: Farmers, Why could this group be considered the “backbone” of America? DO NOW: 1. Submit this weekend’s HW to your class bin in the back of the room 2. Copy HW: Using pages 548-551, answer questions on GRA 18-4 3. Begin to answer the DO NOW questions on the first page of the yellow packet you’ve been given.

4 Possible DO NOW Answer The message of the poster is that all the groups represented on the perimeter could not do their job if it wasn’t for the farmers who provided them all food. The farmers are being represented in a positive light because they’re at the center of the picture with the slogan; “I Feed You All” beneath it. This poster was created from the farmer’s point-of-view because it is expressing their importance to America as a whole.

5 The National Grange & Populist Party Each student will be assigned a letter, either A or B Students who are assigned letter “A” will read “The Granger Movement & Farmers’ Alliances” like a historian and then answer the questions that follow Students who are assigned letter “B” will read “The Populist Party” like a historian and then answer the questions that follow Each group will have representatives present the correct answers to the class when we review

7 Tuesday | September 16 th Topic/ Focus: Westward Expansion Poster Project AIM #11: How can we display our understanding of Westward Expansion through a propaganda poster? DO NOW: 1. Take out last night’s HW (GRA 18-4), leave on desk for me to check 2. Be ready to review answers as a class 3. Take out any colored pencils, markers, etc., for Poster Project (I’ll explain)

8 Westward Propaganda Poster Project Directions: You will be creating a piece of propaganda as if you were living during the era of Westward Expansion Your goal is to create something that will encourage settlers to want to travel westward You should consider using a catchy-slogan, vocab words, ect., in your poster The message of your poster should be clear and easy to understand Let’s have a look at some real Westward Expansion Era posters…

12 Wednesday | September 17 th Topic/ Focus: Constitution Day Scavenger Hunt AIM #12: Why does the United States have a constitution? Who was the Constitution designed to protect? DO NOW: 1. Take out your posters from HW and submit them to your class bin. 2. Copy HW: DAWES ACT READING & Q’s 3. In your notebooks, address the following prompt: What words or phrases come to mind when you think of the United States Constitution? Jot them down.

15 CONSTITUTION SCAVENGER HUNT Students are to answer the nine questions on the scavenger hunt worksheet using the booklet given to them. These questions cover a wide range of topics associated with the United States Constitution.
