MODULE 6: UPGRADING UNIDESK COMPONENTS
2
Agenda Downloading and unpacking the bits Preparing the environment MA and MCP Upgrades Updating the VIA Broker Agent CP Upgrades Replacing the CP Template
3
Downloading the Bits Use the Unidesk installer to download a package for later use:
4
Upgrade Bits Upgrade code is buried in the install packages you get when running the Unidesk installer The following are needed from that package: – MA-Update ISO – CP-Update ISO – CP-template Un-ZIP the CP template
5
Connecting the Upgrade Media Both upgrade ISOs are connected to the MA – You can do one at a time – Upgrade the MA, then the CPs. But the MA has two CD devices to allow connections for both ISO files. Ensure the CD-ROM devices are “Connected” in the VM’s settings for the MA.
6
Upgrade Unidesk System tab – Select Upgrade in Action Menu on the right This queries the ISO/CD-ROM devices and checks available code there against MA and CPs Preferred Upgrade Path: – Upgrade MA first – VIA Agent upgrades (Broker integration) – Upgrade Master CP – Upgrade remaining CPs
7
Upgrade the VIA Agent Update the View or XenDT servers with the new Unidesk VIA Agent AFTER the MA is upgraded Located in “Unidesk Broker Integration Tools” zip in the install Media Stop the UniVIA service on the broker Install on each connection server or XenDT DDC.
8
What about the desktops? No Unidesk desktop needs to be touched by the administrator! Image preparation utilities installed in the gold-image are just that, image prep. Any Unidesk drivers required will be updated automatically next BIC for the desktops.
9
Replacing the CP Template CP Template is used for any new CP deployments Un-ZIP the CP template and you are presented with an OVF to import into vCenter and convert to a template Import the new CP Template and change the CP Template settings in the System – Settings and Configuration tabs
10
Common Issues “No upgrade is available” – System already upgraded OR you CDs are not “connected” Newly Deployed CPs are “old code” – CachePoint Template was not updated.
