SEPAK TAKRAW STEPHANIE JANNEY

 Takraw is the Thai word for the hand-woven rattan ball originally used in the game. Essentially the game is "kick ball".  The earliest accounts of Takraw in the United States began with a group of students at Northrop University in 1986 in Inglewood, California.  Students attending the University often enjoyed playing the sport on a court on top of the dormitory cafeteria. They taught a handful of American students how to play, which inspired the Malaysian Airline system to sponsor a U.S. team from the University to attend the National Tournament in Kuala Lumpur in November 1987. The Northrop team played in a bracket of international new teams with Korea, Sri Lanka, and Australia. The U.S. team beat Sri Lanka and Australia to bring home the gold. INTRODUCTION/HISTORY

 The center player is called a Tekong, where he/she serves the ball at all times. The other two players are called Feeder and Striker/Killer. It doesn't matter which player (Feeder or Striker) plays on which side of the Tekong. A Feeder is the player who sets the ball for the Striker, who usually does a spike. bicycle, or acrobatic kick to send the ball to the opponent's court.  How to play! How to play! TEAMS/HOW TO PLAY

 An official match is won by best of five sets, win 3 sets of 5. A team event or group match is won by best of three sets, win 2 sets of 3; used in team events and often in tournaments to speed up group stages.  A match is played by two regus (teams), each consisting of three players.  The ball can be in plain single color, multi-color, and luminous colors, but not in any color that will impair the performance of the players such as neon’s.  Each player may touch the ball only once before it is kicked over the net.  Some balls are covered with synthetic rubber to soften the impact of the ball on a player's body part. FACTS

 The sepak takraw sport is played on a similar to badminton double sized court. COURT, NET, BALL -Area of the court: 44ft x 20ft -All boundary lines should be drawn at least 9.8ft away from all obstacles. The Sepak Takraw ball is a spherical shape, made of synthetic fiber or one woven layer.

If you are playing alone it is a great time to practice different techniques using your feet that can help you gain strength in moving the ball throughout the air. All you need is yourself, a ball and a pair of tennis shoes that allow you to move around and get physically active. CONCLUSION
