 What happens to the coal that is burned in a power plant to generate electricity or the gasoline that is burned in your car? Can those sources of energy be used again? Renewable sources of energy can be used again, over and over. Examples:  water  wood  wind  sun. Non-renewable energy sources cannot be used again. Examples:  coal  gasoline.

 Most of the electrical energy produced in Alberta is from non-renewable sources, such as coal.  Provinces like Quebec and British Columbia use the power of rivers and dams to produce most of their electrical energy.

 Potential energy is transported in many ways. Truck drivers haul gasoline to fuel stations, electrical lines transfer power to your home and oil pipelines pump oil all over North America.  Many jobs arrise because of the need for the transportation of energy. power line installers truck drivers oil patch workers.

 Energy conversion efficiency is the ratio between the useful output of an energy conversion machine and the input, in energy terms. The useful output may be electric power, mechanical work, or heat. Useful Output Energy is always less than the Input Energy.ratioenergy conversion machineenergyelectric power mechanical workheat

Energy Efficiency % = Energy Output / Energy Input x 100 Fact: a compact fluorescent light bulb will save about $30 over its lifetime and pay for itself in about 6 months. It uses 75 percent less energy and lasts about 10 times longer than an incandescent bulb.
