Key Terms Administrative Region: A political area established for political reasons, that doesn’t follow physical boundaries. Colony: Land settled and ruled by another country, e.g. Brazil is a colony ruled by Portugal. Cultural Tourism: Travel to experience history, folklore, art, architecture and other aspects of an areas culture.

What is Culture? Culture can be defined as a way of life shared by a group or society It included everything from language, religion, customs, festivals, music, art, and values to institutions, ways of doing business, and styles of clothing

The Demonstration Effect If tourism is not carefully planned to balance with local lifestyles, aspects of the tourists’ cultures may change or replace local culture Demonstration Effect: the impact of tourists’ values and customs on local peoples –Demonstration effect may affect religious beliefs, dress, music, eating habits, or commercial practices
