Relief Sculpture and Color

Primary colors: Colors that mix to create ALL other colors 1.Red 2. Blue 3. Yellow

Secondary colors Colors made with 2 primary colors 1.Green (blue+yellow) 2.Orange (yellow+red) 3.Violet (blue+red)

Intermediate Colors: Colors made from 1 primary and 1 secondary color (write down a FEW of these examples) 1.Yellow-green (more yellow+green) 2.Yellow-orange (more yellow+orange) 3.Red-violet (more red+violet) 4.Red-orange (more red+orange) 5.Blue-green (more blue+green) 6.Blue-violet (more blue+violet)

Monochrome One color and it’s values 1.TINT= add white 2.TONE=add black

Complementary Colors: Colors that are opposite on the color wheel 1.Red & Green (Christmas) 2.Blue & Orange (Chicago Bears) 3.Violet & Yellow (Schurz)

Neutral (Earth) Colors Brown, beige, tan, gray and black 1. Mix complementary colors to get these colors!

Color Scheme: a planned combination of colors Includes COMPLEMENTARY colors!

Analogous Colors that are NEXT to each other on the color wheel

Warm Colors: think of the sun or fire (oranges, reds, yellows). Usually appear to come forward in space

Cool Colors: think of water (blues, greens, violets). Usually appear to go back in space

Relief Sculpture :Sculpture that is on a flat surface but raised

Armature: the support system of a sculpture. Usually unseen and underneath.

Collage: a design created by attaching mostly flat elements (newspaper, wallpaper, text, photos etc) to a surface.

Emphasis: a principle of art & the focal point in an art work.

Contrast: a principle of art & differences within an artwork to create interest Examples: opposite colors, geometric vs. organic shapes, big or small etc
