1. Kent and Medway Progression Federation (KMPF) An overview for partner schools

2. What is KMPF? KMPF is a long-standing partnership between: 40 secondary schools and academies Three universities in Kent & Medway (Canterbury Christ Church University, the University of Kent, and the University of the Creative Arts) Kent County Council and Medway Council Together we aim to raise the attainment and aspirations of disadvantaged young people in Kent and Medway who may not otherwise consider Higher Education (HE).

3. What does it mean for our school? KMPF schools have access to a unique, free programme of HE outreach opportunities tailored to engage less advantaged young people in your school – across all year groups. Transport funds are available for off-site visits. Support team on hand to work with schools in planning activities and dedicated staff in each of the partner universities.

4. How does it work? Schools identify a Progression Mentor to plan and co- ordinate a programme of HE outreach for identified students within their school. Progression Mentors: – Act as the point of contact between the school and the KMPF Support Team and university partners – Work with KMPF to identify students most likely to benefit – Plan and book activities to meet students’ needs – Prepare students for taking part in activities – Ensure that new students complete a short baseline survey to enable KMPF to evaluate impact.

5. How do we know if it’s adding value? KMPF tracks students who take part in activities over the long-term to see if they progress to HE. Over 18,000 young people tracked since 2007. Our evaluation demonstrates: – 28% of our most disadvantaged young people progress to HE, compared to 20% of their local peers. – 80% of KMPF students achieve a first degree KMPF provides schools with a bespoke annual report detailing progress of all students from your school (including your alumni) – information which can be shared with Ofsted.

6. The opportunity: A range of activities to support the aspirations and attainment of students across all year groups. Funds to support student transport. An on-site Progression Mentor to ensure each school can benefit most from its membership of KMPF. Dedicated members of staff in partner universities, and within the KMPF Support Team, to work with schools. Data collected and evaluated, with results fed back annually to schools to assist Ofsted reporting.
