Title it: Contributions Short Answer Make sure to head it: Your name Mr. Schreiber World History Period __ Date 4. Answer this question in proper short answer format (you don’t have to write down the question): How have you (or a friend) contributed to your school, your family, a class, a club, a team, or some other group? (at least two examples to the same place) Possible Introduction: I have contributed to __________ in many ways.

-Muslims made major advancements in astronomy, zoology, geography, arithmetic, navigation, art, architecture, and technology. -Had Muslim scholars not translated classic Greek texts the European Renaissance would not have happened the way it did. -Muslims have not always been recognized for many of their contributions to world civilization.

5 Muslim Contributions Project (50 Points)
25 Minutes 1. Read your section silently to yourselves and ALL INDIVIDUALLY take notes on why that Muslim contribution was the most important-looking for “JUICY details” (5 Minutes). 2. Pick a facilitator - makes sure group is on track Pick an artistic director - make sure poster/artwork is high quality Pick a historian - makes sure details are factual Pick a presenter - makes presentation for group (1 Minute) 3. Work with your group to create the “perfect” short answer response to this question (arguing for your contribution): “What is the most important Muslim Contribution to World Civilization?” (10 Minutes). 4. Write your contribution, “perfect” short answer (BIG), and a symbol or image representing the Muslim Contribution onto a poster. (10 Minutes)

6 Muslim Contributions Project Presentations
1. Take out a piece of paper 2. For each presentation write down: -Contribution Name -Score of 10-1 for short answer quality (10 for very solid, 1 needs improvement) for quality of short answer. -Score of 10-1 for most important contribution (what you think is most important) (10 for extremely important, 1 for not so important) -Jot down notes on Juicy Details for the ones you think are very important - use this information to answer your new essential question 3. At the end: Circle the one you thought was the best short answer. Star the one you thought was the most important contribution.

Ibn Battutah Definition: A muslim who traveled to Africa, India, China and Spain in the 1320s Sufism Definition: A movement that teaches that people can find God’s love by having a personal relationship with God. It had a strong impact on Islam. Omar Khayyam Definition: A famous Sufi poet who wrote about his faith, hope and other emotions in a book known as The Rubaiyat.
