1 Come to Tennessee, USA Summer 2010 Study Tour

3 Why come to Tennessee? You should come to Tennessee because: You can stay at Miss Dee’s farm. You can learn about farm life and farm animals. You can practice English. You can learn about different ways of living. You can learn about alternative energy. You can meet and study with some children from the Farm.

4 Who can come? P3, P4 and P5 students are invited to apply. You will have an interview first. You must not be scared of animals and nature. You cannot be allergic to animals. You must be well behaved. You must get your parents’ permission.

5 First, there will be two long flights.

6 Then we will go to my farm.

9 We will have a buggy ride and learn about Amish people.

10 Amish People Amish is a religion and way of life. They are farmers. They don’t drive cars. They use buggies or horses. They don’t use electricity. They don’t have mobile phones or TVs. They grow all of their own food. They do not wear modern clothes. Amish people on the street

11 We will learn about Southern towns.

12 We will learn about African Americans.

13 Native Americans – like Pocahontas

14 Native Americans Native American Dance Native American Flute Music Trail of Tears – Pushing the Cherokees West. Trail of Tears They wear feathers. Some live in teepees. They believe in animal spirits. They like to dance and play flutes and drums. They have their own languages. White people from Europe tried to kill them all and take their land.

16 The Farm in Summertown I was born here. It used to be a commune so everyone farmed and everything was shared. They are mostly vegetarians. They eat organic, natural food. They love yoga and nature. They will teach you about solar energy, cisterns, building with earth materials and conserving the world’s resources.

17 The Farm School

18 We will spend a few days with the children at the Farm School. They have year-round school. We will do arts and crafts. We will join their talent show. We can learn about different kinds of energy. We will meet the “kids from the country” who have come from the city to learn about nature just like you. Some of them ride horses to school.

24 Basic Itinerary Learn about farm life and farm animals. Take an Amish buggy ride. Study at the Farm School. Join a talent show with the Farm School. Ride ponies if your parents say it’s ok. Go creek walking, fishing and catch crawdads. Eat barbeque. Take a hay ride on a tractor. Go to David Crockett Park: swimming, volleyball, hiking and visit the museum.
