2 What´s Diabetes? Diabetes is a group of metabolic alterations that lead to the increase of blood glucose concentration. Why there is glucose in our blood? Why the rise of glucose is dangerous? Glucose in blood Excesive glucose in blood

3 Types of Diabetes There are three different types of diabetes :  Type I  Type II  Gestational

4 Epidemiology Type I It affects approximately the 10% of diabetics in the world Type II It affects approximately 90% of the Diabetics in the world Gestational It occurs in about 2%–5% of all pregnancies and may improve or disappear after delivery.

5 Symptoms  Type 2 diabetes develops slowly, no symptoms at first and the suffers may not have symptoms for many years.  Symptoms of type 1 diabetes develop over a short period of time. People may be very sick by the time they are diagnosed.  Gestational Diabetes, there are no symptoms, or they are mild.The blood sugar (glucose) level usually returns to normal after delivery.

6 Hypoglycemia What happens when our blood sugar is too low (Hypoglycemia) ? The most common causes of hypoglycemia in diabetics are :  Taking your insulin at the wrong time  Taking too much insulin by mistake  Not eating enough during meals or snacks after you have taken insulin or diabetes  Exercising more or at a different time than usual  Drinking alcohol
