3 HardwareSoftware Hardware refers to the physical components of a computer that can be seen and touched. Including: Keyboard Mouse Network cable Webcam Monitor Printers Router Speakers Motherboard DVD drive Software is a set of instructions or programs that tells the computer what to do. Two types: System software Application software

4 System Software Application Software programs that control and analyze the computer’s hardware, for example, an operating system or backup software Programs that are designed to help users complete a specific activity or task. For example, if you wanted to search the Internet, you would open an application called a web browser.

5 Three Basic Computer Functions InputProcessingOutput Input is when a computer takes in data or information through an input device. Processing is when a computer uses input data or information to obtain a meaningful result. This takes place in its central processing unit or CPU. Output is when a computer sends out data or information through an output device. Examples: Keyboard Screen Mouse Scanner Digital camera Gamepad Examples: Printer Screen Speakers
