Anxiety Disorder Serious emotional or behavioral problems Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) Constant thoughts or fears Partake in unorthodox, and uncanny actions (rituals) Example: person who needs all the napkins on a table to be folded in a specific shape

Characteristics Repetitive thoughts Immense amounts of stress Cannot control the images that they see Unproductive due to repetition of rituals

Symptoms Fear of dirt Fear of causing harm to others Fear of making a mistake Fear of being embarassed Fear of thinking evil Need for order, symmetry Excessive doubt

Prevalence In 2000, OCD was among the top 20 causes of mental illnesses between ages 15-44 OCD fourth most common mental illness 1-2% of the world are diagnosed with it Lower among young children Increases during childhood and adolescence

Eating Disorders Abnormal eating habits- insufficient or excessive food Binge Eating Disorder (BED) Leads to obesity Could be genetically inherited

Symptoms Eating more than most people Short breaks in between eating Worried about eating too much Feels guilty about eating a lot Eats until physically uncomfortable Eats when depressed Eats even when not famished Eats secretly

Prevalence 1.2% of US population More common in women than men 3.5% of women in US in contrast to 2% in men
