5 Purpose of Completed Classroom Guidance Students understood the purpose and completion of the senior letter reviewed the senior checklist document were updated on GACollege411 information were presented again with HOPE Scholarship eligibility information were provide with Surviving the Senior Year Guide were advised about the importance of their career interest and choices upon graduation and their next choices

6 Hybrid Schedule Just a reminder…… As we complete the senior year, please remember that your student is on a “Hybrid Schedule” for this year. Flexible schedule to meet individual needs of your student. Some courses are taught for 50 minutes and earn ½ credit at the end of each semester Some courses are taught for 100 minutes with one credit being earned at the end of either the fall or spring semester

8 Career Decisions As courses were considered during the advisement and registration opportunities, during the high school years, students asked and continue to ask themselves: What kinds of classes really interest me? Do I see in my future: technical college college military work other

14 FAFSA Submit a paper application or apply on-line at www.fafsa.ed.govwww.fafsa.ed.gov You must have 2009 tax information The FAFSA can be used to apply for the HOPE scholarship, as well as all other state and federal student aid

15 HOPE Scholarship You can apply for HOPE through either FAFSA or the e-HOPE electronic application at www.gsfc.org College Preparatory or Technical Eligibility (3.0 in academics: CP; 3.2 for TP) Paulding County downloads your high school information to the Georgia Student Finance Commission (HOPE)

16 HOPE GPA Eligibility District HS transcript is a numeric gpa example 83.4% all courses on the entire high school transcript count Coming Soon! Transcript that has weighted and unweighted 4.0 GPA…..this is not the same as the HOPE GPA HOPE GPA – 4.0 scale All academic courses count, even academic electives Electives do not count An 83.4% gpa on the Paulding County School District transcript may not mean that the there will be a 3.0 HOPE eligible GPA

17 Specialized Technical Preparation 80% of jobs require a specialized skill U.S. Department of Labor Statistics www.dol.gov HOPE Scholarship pays for 95 hours of coursework toward technical certification regardless of high school GPA

18 Final Transcript Request You must send a final transcript to the school you plan to attend Submit your school’s address when requesting a transcript Free copy to the one postsecondary school you plan to attend Future transcript requests

19 Transcript Requests During Year University System of Georgia Schools will receive transcripts via GACollege411 Transcripts for out-of-state schools and for other reasons will be printed off, reviewed, and mailed There needs to be plenty of lead time for transcripts to accompany college and scholarship applications

20 Immunization Colleges require proof of immunization for entering freshmen If you do not have this at home, request a copy from your family physician

21 Scholarships You can still apply for scholarships after you start college and throughout your postsecondary education Example: Kennesaw State University offers scholarships in multiple fields

22 Portfolio and Resume Continuous Improvement We are on a Hybrid schedule this year 100-minute courses are worth 1 credit 50-minute courses are worth ½ credit Continue to set goals Continue to keep records of activities, awards, and honors for updating your portfolio and resume Networking
