PASSWORD MANAGEMENT MADE EASY A Project Play Date - September 26, 2008 Beth Carpenter, Library Services Manager, Outagamie Waupaca Library System

The Plan  Benefits of online password management  Passpack  Basic info about it  How to sign up  Getting around in Passpack  Saving passwords & backing them up  Changing some settings  Auto-login and the Passpack It! button  Locking up and logging out

Is this your method? http://flickr.com/photos/yggg/130617196/

How’s it working? http://flickr.com/photos/b-tal/163450213/

My Goal http://flickr.com/photos/puja/138469909/

Benefits  No more easily lost scraps of paper!  ONLINE =  Access your data from any computer, 24/7  No downloading software  Lots of password managers out there  KeePass, Clipperz, Passbay, Passpack  Some are computer specific & require a download  Some are online  Some are both  I recommend Passpack!

Passpack Basics  Save up to 100 passwords FREE  Store anything you like: notes, Frequent Flyer miles, passwords, registration details  But NO financial data!  Web-based  No software to download  Not computer specific – access any time, any place  Secure  Offers desktop and offline versions

Signing Up

Sign Up Options  Create a new User ID and Pass  OR sign in with an existing login from:  OpenID  Windows Live  Google  Yahoo  Facebook  Follow the instructions for your choice

The Packing Key  Create one the first time you log in  What keeps your passwords secret  DO NOT FORGET IT  Login with:  User ID  Pass  Anti-phishing message  Packing key

Home Page  Displays info about your account, FAQ, help

Passwords Page Search your entries Quick link to a site

Saving Passwords  On the Passwords page, click on or if you’ve added before  This window will open: Passpack will generate secure passwords for you!

Editing & Deleting Entries  Click on the title to edit or delete that entry  Change info in any field or Delete the entry in the Entry Details window

Importing Passwords  Click on the down arrow next to TOOLS  Select IMPORT PASSWORDS  Can import comma or tab separated values

Saving & Backing Up  After you have added new info click on on the Passwords page  Backup your data frequently  Keeps in Passpack’s format on your computer for easy restore if needed

Exporting Passwords  Export your data in comma or tab separated values  Allows you to use the data in another tool  OR export to a printable HTML table  If you print it, keep it safe!

Changing Settings

Packing and Saving  Set a default time for Passpack to lock up your account if it is inactive  If you enable 1 Click Auto-login, this won’t matter  Auto-save changes, yes or no?  Choose NO if you want to save your changes manually  Choose YES if you want it to save all changes automatically

Startup Options  Pick which tab you would like to open first  Home is the default  I prefer changing this to Passwords  What to do next?  Unpack everything, just Favorites, or a variety of other options  I prefer “unpack everything – then turn on 1 Click Login”

Welcome Message  Customize a welcome message  Provides protection against phishing attacks  Say YES to the 8 boxes screen  Make sign in easier with “Remember Me”  But only if your computer isn’t shared!

Auto-login & 1 Click Login  Great way to speed up logging in to your accounts!  Turn auto-login on  Install your button in your bookmarks

How 1 Click Login Works  Keep Passpack open in a separate tab in your browser  Go to the login page for the site you want to use  Click your Passpack It! button to login automatically  If you have multiple logins saved for that site, Passpack will let you choose which one to use

Voila!

Lock it up or Logout  Lock up your account if leaving your computer unattended  OR Logout when you’re all done

Passpack.com  Contextual help with links to Help Center  Video demos  FAQ http://help.passpack.com/faq/http://help.passpack.com/faq/  Blog http://passpack.wordpress.com/http://passpack.wordpress.com/  Always under development
