1 Back to Basics…If I Can Get My Mom to do it…

2 PowerPoint and Multi-Media Presentations A few key terms Hyperlinking = linking to a website, video, document or slide that is different or outside of your current presentation Advantage – fast forward/rewind control Disadvantage – opens a different window, you leave your presentation Embedding = placing a document, video, sound, image, etc within the framework of your slide Advantage – looks pretty, you stay within your presentation Disadvantage – lose ability to fast forward and rewind PPT = PowerPoint NOTE: Before creating a PowerPoint Presentation be sure to first create a new folder and stick the PPT and all files (images, videos, etc that you want to go with the PPT in the same folder) Like packing a suitcase – if you forget to put your toothbrush in the suitcase its really hard to brush your teeth when you unpack your bags at the hotel

3 Downloading Vs Streaming A few key terms: Bandwidth = The amount of space that is available to you within your internet connection (Often called a Pipe) The bigger the Pipe the more stuff you can do! Buffering = The delay or choppiness users experience when playing videos on when their bandwidth is full or close to full (hwy analogy) Downloading = taking a file from a location outside of your computer and saving it onto your computer Advantage – You never have to worry about playback (for videos) and the object can be placed into PowerPoint, Word, Inspiration, etc – No buffering! Disadvantage – objects (like videos) can take up space and are not available immediately (you have to wait…sometimes 10 whole minutes!) Streaming = playing a video live over the internet. Advantage – Immediately available for you – video on demand Disadvantage – You need high speed connections and ample bandwidth or you may experience buffering
