Headlight: ICT Project Lesson 1: Logos.
2
Aims: To introduce the Headlight ICT project. To understand what makes a good logo. Be able to design your own company logo using a design software package.
3
Headlight ICT Project: Your challenge is that you are going to pitch to the VW Group your idea for a new special edition model/concept vehicle for one of their ranges (this could be for Porsche, Audi, VW, Seat Skoda, Bugatti, Bentley, Ducati, Scania or Lamborghini). Research who you would sell this vehicle to e.g. your target market, create surveys and produce charts and graphs to show your findings visually. Create a 3D design for your vehicle using a 3D design package and then either create and edit an advert for it using flip-up cameras or create an app for it. Finally you will present your whole pitch to the VW group in the way of a high end PowerPoint or Prezi at the end of the project.

What is a Logo? A logo is a specific symbol chosen to represent a company. It can be a drawing, illustration, symbol, abbreviation, lettering style, or word. Today we are going to set you a task to use and explore a 3D design package e.g. Google Sketch up to create a logo. Later in the project I will give you more help on how to use the software and in greater detail to design your car, but for now I want you to do more independent learning and exploration to design your Team’s Logo after watching a quick video clip.

Different Types of Logos: Wordmark logo – mainly uses text and typeface to create its message, though other elements might be included e.g. Google. Lettermark logo – similar to a wordmark but consists of initials or abbreviations e.g. like the one used by BBC. Brandmark logo – a graphic symbol usually simple but powerful, that comes to represent the company in an abstract way e.g. Nike, Apple. A combination mark logo – (also called an iconic logotype) combines a wordmark with a brandmark, communicating both a company’s identity and its purpose e.g. Audi.
