4 4/20/2017 What is TASC? The Test Assessing Secondary Completion is CTB/McGraw-Hill’s high school equivalency test Accessible to the approximately 40 million adults in the U.S. without high school or equivalency diploma Measures readiness for college or workforce as outlined by the Common Core State Standards and relative to that of graduating high school seniors Examinee Cost - $0 in New York State the Board of Regents voted on a special provision that will grandfather in past work. Students who have passed a section under the current GED and need to pass the others can have their score counted until 2016. CCSS offer an increased cognitive complexity of learning and assessment that better insures college or career readiness Free NY State Aligned to CCSS as well as the newest Common Core Standards for Adult Education released by the US Department of Education. 4/20/2017 TASC Test Design 2014 test includes: Multiple-choice items ( 4 answer choices; a, b, c, d) Writing prompt (evidence-based writing) Gridded-response items (Mathematics) Stimulus-based science and social studies item sets 2015 test (and beyond) includes an increased coverage of the CCSS through inclusion of additional item types and increased rigor Constructed-response items Technology-enhanced items We are embedding TE and CR items as FT only in 2015 Note to trainer: All field test items in the 2015 test will not be scored. The TE items in 2015 will be FT items and therefore will not be scored. This is not something you would want to communicate to the field (educators/students) as we always want test takers to approach the FT items with the same focus as the operational items. 10 Estimated Time to Complete Test Sessions
4/20/2017 Estimated Time to Complete Test Sessions The maximum length of time for one test session is approximately 7 hours*. The approximate time for each subtest is listed below: Subject Domain Est. time to Complete Language Arts Reading 70 minutes Writing 50 minutes Language 60 minutes Mathematics 90 minutes Social Studies Science 80 minutes Test times will be finalized after field testing is completed. Test is timed. The table presents the estimated testing time for each subtest based on the number of items on the forms in 2014 and Based on the 2013 field test and the first operational administration in 2014, the actual testing time will be validated. When TASC becomes fully computer adaptive in 2016, and fewer items will likely be administered to estimate an examinee’s score, testing time should decrease. Copyright © 2013 CTB/McGraw-Hill LLC.

Student Experience – Test Delivery Client

54 Student Experience (Test Delivery Client)
This icon found on your lab computers indicate the test delivery client software has been installed. Use this for Student Testing After students have been assigned to a test session, they will visit the computer to complete testing Student Login Click on the McGraw-Hill, Online Assessment Icon on the desktop Use the credentials shown on the test ticket to log the student into his/her test session Do not allow the students to click exit out of the test As you watch, if a student continuously has a grey box pop up on their screen during testing, that student is attempting to skip to the next question without answering.

55 TASC Online Student Experience
Double-click the Red icon on the desktop The student accesses the test session by double-clicking the “Online Assessment” icon located on the PC/Workstation. Test module can only be accessed by Logon, Password, and Test Access code. The access code should not be given to the students until the students are seated at the test site computers and the students are ready to login. Student Login Name and Password is provided on Student “Individual Test Ticket” and available on “Summary Sheet” printout for the Test Proctor. The Test Proctor will provide the Test Access code to the test taker. The Test Access Code is available on the “Summary Sheet” printout and is created during the Test Scheduling process. Access code provided by the Test Proctor

56 Test Session “Welcome” Page
Student Test Environment The Test Module automatically sizes to the user’s screen. The user’s desktop content is “Locked Down” when the test content is presented. A test must be completed to “Unsecure” a system. Files posted to CTB’s website are protected by PGP™ encryption technology. CTB complies with the Children’s Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) for delivery and protection of student data collected or delivered online.

57 Finishing a TASC Test The student clicks, “Yes, I have finished” to complete a test session The test automatically completes if the test-taking time expires After a test has closed, the scores are calculated for reporting The examinee will exit the test per the instructions in the system (i.e., will click “Finish” and confirm). The Examiner will collect the test ticket and scratch paper. If there is a need for the test to be invalidated, the Examiner will ensure that the test ticket is clearly marked as such and will submit the ticket to the Test Coordinator. The Test Coordinator will then go into the system to invalidate the test. Test Coordinators and Examiners will be provided with a complete set of detailed instructions with which to carry out their tasks.
