 Since DCS has a wide variety of Interactive Whiteboards around the district AND we are encouraging collaboration throughout the district, I am providing instruction/tips on all of the brand name IWB’s in the district. You may or may not have access to some of these programs in your classroom, or even at your school. Viewers & Free Trials of the software are available on each particular company website. If you would like a piece of software installed on your computer, please see either me or your tech. Installation of software is dependent on amount of available memory (RAM) you have on your computer. We will do our best to accommodate.

 The “generic” name for all Interactive Whiteboards has become smartboard, however, SMART Technologies is the company behind the SMARTboard. All IWB’s are different; different signature software and different ways they interact with your computer. Look at the photos below and see which board you have. PROMETHEAN ( ALSO COMES IN ORANGE) SMARTboard Has 4 colored Pens w/ a pen tray Mimio: Bar is mounted on Existing whiteboard w/ A projector unit either on a Cart or ceiling mounted.

You must have the SMARTnotebook software installed on your computer to create and view SMARTnotebook lessons. As with most IWB software, a license key is required after the 30 day initial trial. If your school has a valid license, please see your tech if you wish to have this software installed for your board. They have one of the LARGEST ready-made lesson banks I have found on the internet. Check out the links in the following slides.

At Promethean Planet, you can sign up for an account and have access to many pre-made flip charts on a variety of topics. If you would like to have ActivInspire installed on your computer and you do not have a Promethean board, see your tech. to see if this is a possibility.  www.prometheanplanet.com www.prometheanplanet.com

 http://studentresponsenetwork.com/download/ http://studentresponsenetwork.com/download/  The link above will lead to a download for Student Response Software. This is perfect solution for a portable or stationery computer lab (Netbook Carts or a Standard Lab). It turns the computer into a student response unit (charmingly referred to as clickers) which automatically shares the information with the teacher computer or Interactive Whiteboard for INSTANT feedback.

 Here are some free downloads you can use with various applications to create your own SRN Question slides for use in class. 11  http://clifmims.com/blog/archives/2626 http://clifmims.com/blog/archives/2626  www.wordle.net www.wordle.net www.prezi.com (I usually use Prezi for all of my presentation, but since I borrowed a variety of slides from other presentations (all PPT), I decided to go with this format. Prezi is a great way for students to collaborate on a presentation remotely via the world wide web! www.jeopardylabs.com Create your own “web-based” Jeopardy Game Show to review important Skills in your classroom! No Flash-Drive required!

First, students would search for information on spiders. I found this article entitled, “Common Spiders in Mississippi” A teacher could assign a sub- topic to each group. Spiny-Backed Orb Weaver Running Spider, etc….

That group would select their text by highlighting the text of their assigned subtopic, right-click and select Copy.

Students then go to the wordle page, position their cursor inside the empty text box, right-click and select Paste. The copied text will then appear in the box. Click on Go to view your Word Cloud creation.

Look for a button on your keyboard with “Print Screen” By clicking on this button, it will take a snapshot of your computer screen. You can then open your Paint (or Word) and choose the Paste option under Edit to have this image appear. Then you can save it as a.jpeg to put on your website, student blog, or project folder on the computer.

By selecting the dotted box (select tool), you can easily select only the word cloud. Right-click inside the box you selected and click on Copy. Go to File-then select New to open a new page. Do not save yet.

When your new page appears, choose the Paste option under Edit. You can then Save this word cloud as a picture (jpeg) by choosing the Save As option under File.

 Prezi is a web-based Presentation tool. It will allow your students to create modern, interactive, engaging presentations without any special software or storage requirements. No need for a flash drive. Never again have a Power Points with non-working sound or movie clips. Everything is stored online. You can even convert the finished product into a flash file that is playable on ANY computer-no internet required! Students can edit their prezi at their convenience making collaboration away from school a breeze! Teachers can check on student progress online and annotate as needed which makes Prezi a perfect choice for the modern classroom.

 First, you’ll need to create an account. A teacher (using their desotocountyschools.org email address) will be given 500 MB of space. You can even create a file for each group ahead of time to save time.

When students select Exit, Their project is saved. It is also saved periodically throughout their session. They can also preview their presentation by clicking the Show option.

Choosing the “Edit Together” option will allow group members to collaborate on the presentation when it is convenient for them using the link provided in the box.

Student-made Prezis can be saved as a flash file by choosing Export to Portable prezi. If YouTube videos are embedded within the prezi, the internet will be required to play them. There is restriction on You Tube in place for our district at this time. You can email the YouTube links to your tech. and the block can be lifted for those videos.

 http://www.jeopardylabs.com/ http://www.jeopardylabs.com/  You can easily follow the prompts to create your own web-based jeopardy game without downloading any special software!  Challenge your students by assigning topics and having them work in groups to generate Jeopardy Challenge Games for the class!

This will allow you to create a password that will allow online creation and storage of your game. For instance, if your class is studying the water cycle, you might make the password “watercycle”. Tip: Keep a Word document on your desktop named “Jeopardy Labs”. Add game URL (web addresses) and passwords so you can easily find different ones. You can also choose the Browse option at the top to find games made by others.

Choose a game. Jeopardy Labs will keep score for the class!

 http://crosswordlabs.com/ http://crosswordlabs.com/

Great Test Generator that is also made by the same maker. It will easily allow you to create a computerized test and will save and grade the data! It’s as good as having a clone! http://testmoz.com/

 I have created a sample quiz to show you the versatility of this free program. http://testmoz.com/16231 When you create one, don’t forget to print this page or write down the URL so you know how to get to it once it’s created.

This is on the Administrator Tab. I always use my first name as the password so I remember it. By choosing the Reports option, you can see the data.

Poor Shelby didn’t do very well on my test. I hope you did better!
