History 1868 group of African Americans from Jacksonville purchased the property on which the Old Stanton school now resides. named in honour of Edwin McMasters Stanton, President Abraham Lincoln's second Secretary of War

1882 first building was destroyed by fire Another building constructed the same year was also destroyed by fire on May 3, 1901, a fire that destroyed much of Jacksonville. A new school was constructed in 1902 and remained in operation until 1917.

1981 became the Duval County School System's first magnet school first school of education for black children in Jacksonville and its surrounding counties, first school for black children in the state of Florida. -magnet schools are public schools with specialized courses or curricula.

The original mascot was the blue devil the phoenix rising from the ashes was adopted as a second mascot. Blue devil: mascot for sports and other activities Phoenix: symbol of the school itself In 1917, the building, which stands at Ashley, Broad, Beaver, and Clay Streets, was completed. Stanton became the main focus for the education of black children in Duval County and the surrounding areas.

Mission statement The mission of Stanton College Preparatory School is to foster academic excellence through comprehensive curricula, rigorous standards, and challenging assessments. Faculty members guide students to master intellectual, physical, and creative skills; to acquire knowledge; and to think critically, creatively, and independently.

Vision Stanton emphasizes teaching cultural understanding and responsible citizenship to its diverse student body so those students may become compassionate, informed participants in local and world affairs.

Beliefs All students can learn and student learning is the main priority of the school. Students' learning needs are the primary focus of all decisions affecting the work of the school. Students learn in different ways and should be provided with a variety of opportunities for more meaningful applications of what they have learned. Students demonstrate their understanding of essential knowledge and skills by being actively involved in solving problems and producing quality work. Assessments of student learning provide students with a variety of opportunities to demonstrate their achievement.

Beliefs A student's self-esteem is enhanced by positive relationships and mutual respect among and between students and staff. A safe environment promotes student learning. Cultural diversity increases student's understanding and awareness of different people and cultures. Challenging expectations increase individual student performance. Teachers, administrators, parents, and the community share the responsibility for advancing the school's mission.

The Devil’s Advocate School’s newspaper Tradition dating back to 1981 Has established a devil’s advocate blogsite for readers to post their comments to articles Won the Florida Times Union award for the most outstanding newspaper in Jacksonville on 2001, 2003, 2007 and 2008 Won overall 2 nd in 2004 and 2007 and overall 3 rd in 2005.

Live on 5 Own CCTV television station, which broadcasts a news show every morning. Branded as Live on 5 and broadcasts throughout the school on channel 5. formerly branded as Channel 5 News. Their studio features several sets, including the use of chroma key. Updated students on the latest events, meetings, and other activities goings on at Stanton every morning during second period. Live on 5 is produced entirely by the advance television production class.
