1 The Life of Andrew Jackson By: Emily Yamin

2 Date of Birth  Andrew Jackson was born on March 15 th, 1767.  His father died the year Jackson was born.  Jackson’s mother had cholera, and soon died after Jackson had turned 14.

3 Place of Birth  Andrew Jackson was born with his mother and father, but recently immigrated to a Scots-Irish farming family.

4 Childhood  Mother died at Jackson’s age of 14, died of cholera.  Father died the year he was born.  He was two brothers, that died in the war, raised by two uncles, from there on.  At age 15, he went back to school.  Later on, in 1787, he became a lawyer.

5 Personal Information AAndrew Jackson’s name that people had called him was “ Old Hickory “, he was a strict, military officer during the war of 1812.

6 Election of 1824  Jackson had 99 votes and needed 130 votes to win.  Adams had beat Jackson for presidency.

7 Election of 1828  Jackson won up against John Quincy Adams.  Jackson was the 7 th president.

8 Jackson and a Political Convention  The Political Convention was a group of Democrats.  They supported him during the Election.

9 Jackson Actively Campaigning  Jackson was in 2 campaigns.  Lost the first time against John Adams.  Won the second time, beating Adams.

10 Spoils System A group of people who support the person to run the office He was involved in this because he was the president to put it on larger scale.

11 Kitchen Cabinet Had two groups, Cabinet and Kitchen Cabinet. Kitchen Cabinet was a group of unpaid people who met Jackson. Jackson only met up with the Kitchen Cabinet.

12 Veto Power used by Jackson People had told Jackson to use his power to veto. Was the first president to use pocket veto.

13 Nullification Crisis  Andrew Jackson thought it was bad for the country to refuse or ignore laws.  Was started in South Carolina.  Jackson threatened South Carolina.

14 Trails of Tears Settlers wanted to grow cotton on the Indians land. The government made them leave their homes, and walk a thousand miles to the Mississippi River.

15 Treatment of Cherokee Indians JJackson treated them terribly. TThey hated him because what he did to them.

16 Discrimination by Jackson  Racism is a similar word to Discrimination.  Jackson was the one who made the Cherokee nation leave their homes.

17 Indian Removal Act of 1830  The Indian removal act was made by Jackson  This states that the president can take any land west of Mississippi.

18 Conclusion Andrew Jackson was one of the best presidents, but also a bad president at the same time. He was also the worlds 7 th president. He was loved and hated, but still a good president to some, but to others, they didn’t like him.
