India established a Parliamentary Democracy in1947
India has established a strong democracy & strong, is a rising power in Asia! Pakistan, unfortunately, has NOT established a democracy or a strong, diverse economy. In many ways it is almost like a failed state!!

India became a parliamentary democracy! (secular democracy).

Pakistan was suppose to be a democracy…. but
Series of Military Dictatorships; or corrupt leaders- any real democratic leaders did NOT last long in Pakistan.

Like China, new government focused on- Education.
Only 10% of population was literate in Less than half went to school. Today- 74% literacy rate- investment in education.

Indian government established a “socialist”- government controlled the economy.

India closed off it’s economy to most of the world!
At first, a state owned/ socialist economy was developed & it did help the new Indian government build it’s economy. As time went on, the Indian government realized that for the BEST growth of an economy you need to trade with the world & allow people to own businesses- Capitalist Economy!

Like China, India “state owned” economy was weak..
In 1984, the prime minister of India begins to “open” the economy to foreign trade and allowing more individual ownership of businesses and economic resources. New Liberalization Plan-The economy is opened to foreign investments, and more individuals own business and factories such as control of the TV stations. Rate of economic growth %

Capitalist Economic Changes brings many positive changes..
Rise of Middle Class Millions pulled out of poverty Rise of Wealthy in India New Consumer Market All of the same economic changes as seen in China when they changed to capitalism!

Slums of India In China, there is a vast difference between the urban cities and the poor country side. In India, the poor and slum clusters are in the major cities as well. It is very odd to see the massive modern buildings often with a “slum” cluster next to the modern building.

The economy is growing and the country is rapidly modernizing and industrializing. India has one of the 4th Largest Economies in the world-just like China, a thriving middle class, some rich and many Indians are still poor M. Singh & Obama

Pakistan….. Has not faired as well as India!!
