Illegal Immigration Debate Pro Side Presented by Kevin Mohr and Kevin Manzer

Illegal Immigration We obviously cannot argue for something that is illegal therefore we will be arguing as to why we think immigration should be legalized or the number of immigrants allowed in to our country should be increased.

Illegal Immigration "Give me your tired, your poor, Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free, The wretched refuse of your teeming shore. Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me, I lift my lamp beside the golden door !"

Illegal Immigration Ellis Island Immigration Statistics 1855-1890 8 million 1892-195412 million Illegal Immigration Statistics 2003 Estimates 8 to 12 million people

Illegal Immigration 1)Can we stop illegal immigration and how much would it cost? 2,000 mile border between the U.S. and Mexico Cost of securing this border Security Fence- $4-8 billion dollars

Illegal Immigration Increasing Border Patrol- 2x or adding 10,000 agents $1.7 billion (not counting court, detention, and other misc. costs) Estimated that BP catches 1 of 4 illegal immigrants that enter the country.

Illegal Immigration How illegals get into the country Tunnels Smuggled Hike Temporary Visas The security fence and increasing border patrol agents would perhaps not stop illegal immigration at all.

Illegal Immigration Why we should allow these immigrants into the country. First Point: Illegal immigrants do not steal jobs. We, as a capitalist society are free to GIVE jobs to whomever we want. If illegals work for less, that mean that the product is produced cheaper, which give more money to the owner to put back into the economy. Second point: Illegal immigrants do not suck up tax dollars, welfare, or social security. They are not eligible for welfare until they have been here for five years. During those five years, they work, which means that hey pay income tax and sales tax. Most put into social security but do not use it because they go back home.

Illegal Immigration How many of you eat beef? How many of you eat fruit? These are only a few of the things that are sold at a lower cost to you the consumer because of cheap immigrant labor. How many of you want to work in an orchard all day in extreme heat bending over thousands of times to pick fruit? How many of you want to work in a meat packing plant?
