4. Username and password  You are allowed to use all common computer resources (PC:s, printers, e-mail, network..)  Personal ÅA-username and password are required  Your username is valid as long as you’re a registered student at ÅA  Read and follow the regulations!  Keep your password secret!

5. Passwords  Choose a good (secure) password!  The password must be at least 8 characters, and contain at least one number (but not åäö!).  Change your password at: https://www.abo.fi/dc/password  Do not use the Åbo Akademi username/password in other systems

6. Fees  Computer usage at campus is free  Free printer quota of 180 pages in 3 months, then 3.3 cent/page (color pages 25 cent)  jan-mar, apr-jun, jul-sep, oct-dec  Invoice and statistics are sent by e-mail  Check your printerquota usage at: https://www.abo.fi/dc/print/

8. Windows homedirectory  A personal homedirectory is available from all Windows PC:s in ÅAs network  Access from the HOME-icon or as  \\pchome1\pchome1\username\  H:\  Pchome1 for usernames a-k  Pchome2 for usernames l-z  Quota 100 MB, nightly backup

9. Unix homedirectory  /home/aton2/username  available from all Unixcomputers in ÅA:s network and through sftp (tuxedo.abo.fi)  Quota 100 MB, nightly backup

10. Webdirectory  Stores your personal homepage http://www.users.abo.fi/username or http://www.users.abo.fi/firstname.lastname  Access from the shortcut WWW in your homedirectory or (from Windows) as \\web\username  From unix-computers as /wwwusers/username

11. Scratch  A Scratch Disk is accessible from both Windows and Unix computers as: \\scratch\username (windows) or /scratch/username (unix)  Same diskspace irrespective of system (windows or unix)  Temporary storage only, no quotas, no backup

E-mail  Givenname.Lastname@abo.fi or username@abo.fi or username@abo.fi  Webmail https://www.abo.fi/mail/  Thunderbird or Outlook:  imap-server: imap.abo.fi  smtp-server: smtp.abo.fi  Pine for Unix/Linux users  Adressbook available in Webmail, see also http://www.abo.fi/search  Simple calendar in Webmail

13. E-mail Quota  The e-mail quota is 50 MB  Check your e-mail quota usage and other e-mail settings at http://www.abo.fi/mailtools/  No e-mail messages can be received if the quota is exceeded

14. Attachments  Executable attachments will be delayed if delivered at all!  Large attachments are not delivered  Many maillists will not accept attachments at all

15. Spamfilters  ÅA has a system that identifies (a part of) the spam-messages and gives them ”spam-scores”  The user may choose what to do with a ”possible-spam-message”, put it in a special SPAM folder or erase it directly  A default filter is set for all new students  See http://www.abo.fi/mailtools/

16. Greylisting  The very first time you receive a message from a certain non-ÅA address the message will be bounced back to the sending server  A ”normal” mailserver tries to resend the message after a while -> ok, but a slight delay!  Further communication from the same address will not be delayed  Some sites might be blacklisted

17. Private computers  In SparkNet: Use VPN Connection (Virtual Privat Network) for better security, instructions for Windows at http://www.abo.fi/dc/net/vpn  F-Secure virusscan for free, see http://www.abo.fi/dc/pc/Softa/  Keep your PC security patched!  NOTE! Do not run any server software in ÅA:s network! Please note that there are special regulations concerning the use of the network  Please respect copyrights for music and movies

18. SparkNet WLAN  SparkNet WLAN, a wireless connection, is available in the Åbo Akademi, TU and TKKK campus area and also some locations in the city  See: http://wlan.masterplanet.fi/  Requires a WLAN card in your computer and a valid ÅA or TU username  No extra software required

19. SparkNet WLAN  Select WLAN Net with SSID: Spark (or Spark-abo)  Log on as: username@abo.fi  Note! @abo.fi!

20. Internet from home  The Student Village Network is a direct network connection available in all of the apartments of the Student Village Foundation (TYS). Administered by the Computing Centre of the University of Turku.  Application forms (English) for new connections are available at: http://www.yok.utu.fi/svn-application.pdf and also at our Help Desk.  Application forms should be returned to our Help Desk (Oraklet)!

21. Internet from home  The apartments in Tavasthem (Kåren) and Domus are connected to ÅA’s network  Application forms (webforms) for Kåren and Domus are available at http://www.abo.fi/dc/net/karen  Other sites: ADSL with student discount, modem service, WLAN...
