6 Client-side program advisory
16 April 2017 Scope of IT Advisory: At the highest level, IT Advisory has 3 primary activities in support of Advisory and our clients. 1 IT Transformation Application Advisory 2 Client-side program advisory 3 We provide CIO facing services designed to enable the effectiveness and the IT organization including IT transformation where required. Example services include: IT strategy IT architecture Engineering process IT organization Application and Infrastructure portfolio analysis and rationalization Sourcing Green IT Business Process Outsourcing Advisory We provide technology support to Advisory Risk and PI, examples: Finance transformations requiring technology support in the implementation of BI tools (i.e Hyperion, Business Objects) Financial services industry transformations where we provide support through the implementation of industry packages such as GuideWire (insurance claims processing) Support to other industry or competency driven packages as agreed In this role we provide clients who, in support of other advisory services, are looking for help in implementing specific application sets from vendors such as SAP or Oracle We help clients in managing their third party vendors, in understanding how to structure and manage these programs, and in performing client retained responsibilities We do not, however contract for or provide implementation services for the projects Weakness: Lack of deep IT operational competencies/ability to implement technology based solutions Weakness: Limitations of global reach of services/inconsistent depth of skills globally Talk to generic client examples IT Transformation EY is very well positioned in this space. Most of the major IT services providers, such as IBM, Accenture, EDS, etc., are not viewed as independent by the customer and therefore are not allowed to participate in these offerings. Consequently this is both a much needed offering for our clients and one in which we experience reduced market competition. Implementation Services Generally these packages will be implemented through configuration settings (versus programming) and require only minimal integration with clients existing legacy systems. These services are expected to be sold as part of a broader Advisory transformation and not on a stand – alone basis. Additionally, we do not plan to perform full scope implementation of the core modules from SAP, Oracle, or JD Edwards as these are highly commoditized services today which do not fit our business model. Client-side Program Advisory We do not wish to take full program responsibility however, so the clients delivery partners should in these cases continue to contract directly back to the client. In a typical programme structure of this type EY would support the client in overall programme management, high level design, business process design, support to detailed design, and support to acceptance testing. The client’s delivery partner would continue to have responsibility for overall detailed design, configuration and coding, integration, and systems testing. These programmes are inherently risky by nature so all programmes of this type will receive extra scrutiny regarding the programme structure and our contracting process.
