12 START EARLY! FBI processing ranges from 4-20 weeks. FBI is currently changing its database and so is taking over 8 weeks to process. Contact FBI for names of “Approved-Channelers.” These entities can send your fingerprints electronically for an additional fee. Electronic submissions are processed more quickly. On the Fingerprint Card in the box labeled “Reason Fingerprinted” list the reason as “Personal.” If FBI has not returned your background check, you will need to include the FBI declaration form and proof of mailing as part of your application. To provide proof that the request for a background check has been sent to the FBI, a copy of the mailing receipt showing the tracking or article number must be attached to the declaration form. If you have not received a response after 2 months, follow-up with the FBI. Requests and FBI responses do get lost and the FBI does not allow fingerprints to be forwarded to a new address if you move. Do not wait until after the exam. By then, you may not be able to get your results back in time if you have to file a new request. The completed report must be submitted within 2 weeks of receipt but no later than 30 days prior to the Licensing Ceremony. Recommendations
