Behavior Objective – Participation & Work Ethic: We will listen to each questions, answer the ones given to us, and write the important details in our notes.

Geography is like the setting/ stage, and history is the story/action that took place there.

5 2. Describe where in the world Utah is located (relative location).
Utah is located north of the equator, west of the prime meridian (western hemisphere), in North America, and in the western U.S.A.

6 3. Give at least five examples of Utah’s physical features (landforms) and at least five natural resources. {answers will vary} Land forms Natural Resources 1) ) 2) ) 3) ) 4) ) 5) )

7 4. Give two examples of how Utahns have used or changed the land (human/environment interaction). {answers will vary} Utah is very dry, so people build dams, canals, reservoirs, etc to irrigate and store water. Because of Utah’s 4 season, people have to dress differently to survive.

6. Name and describe each of Utah’s three major land regions. What makes each region different than the others? {answers will vary} The Rocky Mountains are where most of Utah’s water is gathered as snow and rain. The Colorado Plateau has amazing scenery and contains all 5 of Utah’s National Parks. The Great Basin prevents water from flowing to the Pacific.

10 7. Describe some unique features of Utah’s largest lake. (3-4 things)
The Great Salt Lake is so salty, only brine shrimp can live in it. It is a remnant of ancient Lake Bonneville. It is the largest lake in Utah. It is easy to float in its water because of the high salt content.

11 8. Name each of Utah’s national parks and describe one special feature (cool thing to see or do) of each of them.

20. How is plant life related to elevation? (What happens to plants at different elevations?) Temperatures become colder the higher the elevation so different plants, which are adapted to their environment, are more successful at certain elevations. Above the timberline, no trees grow.
