3 First Day of School Thursday, August 20th 9:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Extended Day Program Morning Program(fees)Afternoon Program (no cost) 7:30 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. 3:35 p.m. - 6:30 p.m. Applications available from Extended Day coordinator in MPR or through the CVUSD. EVERY MONDAY – Minimum Day. Students released at 2:30 p.m. First day procedures on welcome back letter when you registered. Also on website. Students receive their schedule on the first day of school by going to the classroom indicated in the Welcome Back letter. (Alphabetical breakdown by grade level).

4 Attendance Attendance hotline: 619-588-3017 Regardless of whether an absence is Excused or Unexcused your child misses out on their education and the school receives no funds. Saturday Academy: Free tutoring from the best educators for your student and funds go back to the school.

5 How may we assist you?  General questions: Refer to HMS website, student planner, contact the main office 441- 6156. Attendance hotline: 588-3017.  Teachers: Questions about classes, homework, grades, behavior in class, tutoring, etc.  Counselors: Scheduling questions, academic needs, conflict resolution, bullying, enrollment  Administration: overall campus safety, programs, assessments, curriculum....

6 Daily Life of a Hillsdale Student  6th graders attend periods 1, Zero, 2, 3, Lunch, 5, 6, 7.  Each period (T-F) is 51 minutes with a 4 minute passing period. Zero period is 30 minutes long.  Zero period: Teacher small group or individual tutoring, Silent Reading, Broadcast, Thursday- flyer distribution.  Core classes are located in the 800 and 900 buildings.  6 th and half of 7 th Lunch 12:15 p.m. Half of 7 th and 8 th Lunch 1:10 p.m. (T- Fri).  Courses – Core academics, math, science, English and social studies, PE and elective.  Progress reports every 6 weeks; Report cards every 12 weeks  Check assignment grades on ZANGLE. Pins and passwords available by the 3 – 4 th week of school.

7 P.E.  Always participate and give your best effort…Believe, Achieve, Succeed!  Students suit up every day after the first week of school.  Locks provided – Remind your child to lock up personal belongings and not to share combination.  PE Uniforms are sold after Orientation today and the first week of school. $20.00 both T-shirt shorts, Sweatshirts are $15.00.

8 Lunch, Dress Code, Electronic Devices  Parents – please make sure students are packing healthy lunches and drinks  Lunch applications will be sent home in the First Week packet.  We recommend students pack a lunch or bring snacks and water the first week of school. Lunch lines tend to be long as students are learning their new lunch routines. First weeks of school are HOT!  Please review the dress code guidelines before purchasing new school clothes. Refer to the Student Planner posted on our website.  Cell phones must be turned off and deep in backpacks once on campus. Students may use phones off campus only.

9 The Good Stuff Caught in the Act of Good Behavior - Students can earn tickets for showing off their good character - Drawing every month for Jamba Juice, Target and other gift cards. Lunch time activities, 3 on 3 tournaments, essay contests, Sunrise Run, Jog-a-thon, Cave Day, Character Ed quick writes, dances, assemblies, zero period challenges, Word Masters, Feed the Pig poster contest, costume contests, spirit weeks, music Fridays, WEB activities and challenges and more....

10 Drop off after 8:30 a.m. Pick up at 3:30 p.m.  Safety first – Students may be dropped off and picked up in the parking lot in front of school. Parents may park and drop off students at curb.  Students dropped off on opposite side of street must walk to and cross at one of the crosswalks or be escorted by a parent at all times.  Please do not park in the fire lane or block driveways, exits and entrances.  We recommend families decide ahead of time where to drop off and pick up students.  Students who ride bikes must wear helmets and bring locks.
