1 School System Improvement (SSI) Project Online Portal Training School System Improvement (SSI) Project Online Portal Training Portal Training for the CSS Observer Form Instructions: 1)Use the left-mouse click, Enter key, Space Bar, or Keyboard arrows to move through the presentation. 2)Click or press a key once to make text and animations appear. 3)Wait for animations to finish before clicking or pressing a key again. 4)After viewing the training, confirm online the SSI Portal Trainings you have completed.

4 SSI Project Home Page Teacher Incentive Fund Login Log into the portal using your school email address On your first login, use the password: ssi2014 Make sure to change your password afterwards

5 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Welcome to the SSI Project Portal!Once you login, you will have three options:Update your Profile InformationEnter or review CSS ObservationsEnter or review Danielson Observations

6 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) The focus of this training is on the Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) for Observers The CSS-Observer Form contains 3 parts Part 1 Strategy Counts Part 2 Instructional Strategies and Behavioral Management Strategies Rating Scales Under the Instructional Strategies Domain there are 5 Dimensions Under the Behavioral Management Strategies Domain there are 4 Dimensions Part 3 Classroom Checklist Observation Requirements Each CSS Observation must be at minimum 30 minutes in length Perform the CSS simultaneously with the other direct classroom observation measure your school has selected For example, your school also uses the Danielson Framework for Teaching. Fill out the CSS Observer Form and the Danielson Framework for Teaching together during an observation The CSS must be used for each formal direct classroom observation you perform with your teachers

7 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) Observation and Portal Procedure Complete the Part 1 Strategy Counts and note taking during each observation After each observation, visit the SSI Portal and access the CSS platform Enter your final Part 1 Strategy Counts Enter your Part 2 Instructional Strategies and Behavioral Management Strategies scores Enter your Part 3 Classroom Checklist scores Submit your observation information View the CSS Observer Report Enter your final effectiveness determination scores for each dimension of the CSS Enter scores for any other direct classroom observation measures your school uses Meet with your teacher to go over their observation and provide feedback

8 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page Create New CSS Observation To create a new CSS observation, click on Create New CSS Observation. Let’s create a new Classroom Strategies Scale (CSS) Observation

9 Fill out the required fields. Scroll down the page to complete Part 1, Part 2, and the Classroom Checklist. Click Cancel to return to the TIF Home Page. Create New CSS Observation

10 Part 1: Strategy Counts Enter the total Individual frequency counts for each strategy Enter the total Group frequency counts for each strategy

11 Part 2: Instructional Strategies For each item, first record the Frequency RatingThen, record the Recommended Frequency for each item

13 Part 3: Classroom Checklist Complete Checklist Items and click “save draft” Check Yes or No if an item was observed

14 CSS Observation Submission Submit Observation After completing the CSS Part 1, Part 2, and Part 3 forms, you have two options: Click on Save Draft to save your work and finish it later Click Submit Observation to generate the CSS Observer Report

15 CSS Observation Submission You will be brought back to the SSI Portal home page A message will appear and confirm your observation was successfully submitted

16 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page View All CSS Drafts To view all CSS drafts, click on View All CSS Drafts

17 All submissions are arranged from the most recent to the earliest and continue on to subsequent pages To edit an incomplete submission, click on Edit (To delete, click delete) View ALL CSS Drafts

19 Teacher Incentive Fund Home Page View All CSS Submissions To view All CSS Submissions, click on View All CSS Submissions.

20 Submissions are arranged starting from the most recent. View All CSS Submissions To edit a completed submission, click on Edit Observation. Click Back to return to the TIF Home Page Submissions show each teacher’s name, and the observer’s name Click View Observation to enter effectiveness ratings.

21 View Observation from Principal After entering a CSS Observation, you will need to complete the effectiveness determination ratings. Click on View Observation to generate the CSS Observer Report and complete your ratings

22 CSS Observer Report By clicking on View Report, you will generate the CSS Observer Report Information about the CSS Observation Directions on how to complete the CSS Observer Report effectiveness determination ratings Use the CSS Scoring Rubric to complete your effectiveness determination ratings Generate a printable report

26 CSS Observer Report CSS Classroom Checklist Report View CSS Observer Report Part 3 Classroom Checklist After reviewing all of the information above, you will enter an overall effectiveness determination rating for this observation. Enter CSS Overall Effectiveness Determination Click Submit to finalize the ratings

27 SSI Project Portal What’s Next? Thank you for completing the SSI Portal CSS Observer Training. As new features of the portal become available, we will provide you with updates and subsequent training. Next, you will also need to review the SSI Portal Trainings for the other direct classroom observation measure your school will be using to evaluate teachers. For example, if your school is using the Danielson Framework for Teaching, please review this training. You can find these additional trainings in your portal access email. If you need this email resent to you, please contact us. You can also access these trainings via the Resources page on our project website: http://ssiproject.rutgers.edu/resources/ If you do not see a training for your direct classroom observational measure (e.g. Danielson, Stronge, McREL, Marshall, etc.) at this time, stay tuned. We are working very hard to add your information into our portal and will have this information available to you as soon as possible.
