Lots of couch potatoes don’t vote – a lot of the time it is because they think that their vote won’t count!

Can you persuade the couch potatoes to vote? Your advertising campaign starts here… Your task will be to create an advertising campaign to help persuade the couch potatoes to vote. The campaign will be called “Voting Matters”. It will use information from history and your own ideas to persuade ordinary people to vote For you campaign, you will create: 3 large posters to go on buses, bus shelters or other poster sites; a 4 page leaflet to be delivered to people’s homes and a storyboard for a TV advertisement to be screened at peak time

Your campaign… Poster 1: Show the improvements in the 1870s due to voting. Poster 2: Show one of the improvements to women’s lives because they could vote in elections – what got better for women? Poster 3: Design a poster for the campaign that will shock people into voting – make them feel guilty if they do not vote and persuade the audience that voting is a duty and that they owe it to those who sacrificed their lives in the past. A 4 page leaflet: A leaflet to persuade people to vote and to remind them of how people fought to get it A TV advert: A 30 second TV advert to sum up why voting matters. It will be used in the week before the next general election. Make a storyboard to show your advert – you might even get to make it!

How to make a poster… Think about… Location – where will it go? Audience – who do you want to target? Slogans – Something eye catching that people will remember Colour – To make it stand out Imagery – Images must be eye- catching and simple If the poster is too busy or crowded, people won’t bother to read it – people are so lazy!!

How to make your leaflet… Your leaflet will explain why people today have a duty to use their vote that thousands fought for and some died for. The leaflet will have 4 pages: Page 1: The front cover will have a picture of your chosen hero or heroine ( who campaigned for the vote through time) and a catchy slogan Page 2: “They died for you”. This will explain some of the reasons why people were willing to die for the vote in the 1830s and 1840s Page 3: “Votes for women” will deal with the reasons why women fought and died in the early 1900s Page 4: “Use your vote” will persuade people to vote today

How to make a TV advert… You need to storyboard the advert to show exactly what will happen Remember to put these things into your advert Message: A simple message (voting matters!) for your viewers to remember - just one good reason why they should vote e.g. you don’t get unless you vote or people in history died so that you could vote, so use it! Target audience: Decide who you are writing for e.g. age range (retired people, young people), men or women, working class people or middle class people – think about what issues your audience are most bothered with. Vision, sound and pace: Your TV advert must have a simple and gripping storyline, a range of different shots (close-ups, medium and distance – to keep the audience gripped and interested), sound – some shots will need lively music, some sad and if there is talking you will need to fade the music and pace some shots will need more time than the others to set the mood
