2 ACROCYANOSIS  Bluish tinge to the extremities due to inadequate peripheral circulation Etym. Gr. acro- = extremity, end part cyan- = blue -(o)sis = condition

3 ANEURYSMA  Widening of the arteries cused by the weakness of the walls of the vessel Etym. Gr. eurys=broad, wide

4 ANGIOGRAPHIA  X-ray of a blood vessel with an injection of radipaque substance to the vessel Etym. Gr. angio= vessel graphia= image making

5 VARIX VARICOSE VEIN  Dilated and twisted veins

6 ANGINA PECTORIS  Strangling pain in the chest area Etym. Lat. angere = to squeeze

7 HAEMANGIOMA  A tumour consisting of blood vessels Etym. Gr. Haem- = blood angi- = vessel -oma = tumour

8 HAEMATOMA  Accumulation of blood within the tissues Etym. Gr. Haemat- = blood -oma = tumour

9 ATHEROSCLEROSIS ARTERIOSCLEROSIS  Fatty substance deposit in and between the layers of lining of the arteries  Hardening of the wall of the arteries Etym. Gr. athera = porridge sclerosis = hardening

10 ECCHYMOSIS  Outpouring of blood under the skin Etym. Gr. ekkheein- = to pour out

11 OEDEMA  Swelling because of accumulation of the fluid between the tissues Etym. Gr. oideein = to swell

12 ISCHAEMIA  Decrease in the blood supply of a part or organ Etym. Gr. iskhein = to restrain aemia- = condition of blood

13 CLAUDICATION  Lamenes or limpimng due to decrease in the blood supply to the legs Etym. Lat. claudus = lame

14 REGURGITATIO  Backflow of blood at the valves Etym. Lat. gurges = whirlpool

15 COR PULMONALE  Heart disease caused by disorder of pulmonary circulation

16 CARDIOMEGALIA COR BOVINUM  Enlargement of heart  „Bull-heart”  „Quod licet Iovi, non licet bovi.” Etym. Lat. cor = heart bovinus 3 = related to an oxen

17 COLLAPSE / SYNCOPE  Fainting due to decreased peripheral circulation Etym. Gr. Synkoptein = to hit, strike
