2 Methodology The first wave of the survey was emailed on 10/7/2013 and was cut off on 10/16/2013 The second wave of the survey was emailed on 6/9/2014 and cut off on 6/23/2014. Announcements were made in Managers’ News on 6/9 and in Inside Hopkins e-newsletter on 6/13 8,256 employees responded to the first wave of the survey, while 4,305 employees responded to the second wave This report highlights significant differences between waves at the 95% confidence level 2

3 Key Findings: Significant Differences from Oct-13 to June-14 Awareness of the strategic plan increased from 34% to 59% –Increases were significant for all job categories except students (likely due to the low response rate for students during June) –Increases were significant for both supervisors and non-supervisors –Increases were significant for all JHM entities Learning from executives about the strategic plan increased from 38% to 43% and from supervisors 35% to 44% Learning about the strategic plan through Internet/email increased from 65% to 72% The following strategic priorities changed in relevancy to respondents: –People (74% to 77%) –Biomedical Discovery (34% to 32%) –Patient and Family Centered Care (67% to 70%) –Performance (49% to 51%) During the past six months, supervisors increased the frequency of discussions about the strategic plan –Never discussed (57% to 43%) –3-4 times (8% to 13%) –5-6 times (2% to 6%) –More than 6 times (4% to 6%) 3

4 Key Findings: Significant Differences from Oct-13 to June-14 (Continued) Respondents taking the following actions related to the JHM strategic priorities have increased: –Shared the strategic plan and the meaning of the priorities with my staff or faculty to make them relevant (26% to 37%) –Provided my staff or team members a format to ask questions about the priorities (17% to 25%) –Provided an opportunity for my team members to say how they can support the priorities and to share their opinions (18% to 28%) –Developed departmental/divisional goals based on the priorities (18% to 28%) –Asked my team members to develop goals based on the priorities (15% to 25%) –None of the above (55% to 43%) Respondents reported that their supervisor was more likely to hold quarterly one-on-one meetings (8% to 10%) and less likely to hold weekly one-on-one meetings (23% to 21%) Respondents reported that their supervisor was more likely to hold daily regular team meetings (4% to 5%), less likely to hold weekly regular team meetings (28% to 24%), and less likely to never hold regular team meetings (6% to 5%) Respondents were more likely to prefer to learn more about or contribute to the strategic plan and priorities through print publications (19% to 20%) and less likely to select none of the above (6% to 3%) 4
