HiPath 4000 V 3.0 Highlights KEY MESSAGES: This is not a PBX. The 19” rack-mounted enclosure holds common control (top enclosure in this picture). Gateways (middle 2 – Access Point 3700 enclosures) and applications (bottom). They are implemented on a LAN or could be implemented via cable (that’s the basic difference between an AP 3700 and an AP 3700 IP). As a Converged System we provide our customers with choices. Our customers can deploy a HiPath 4000 V3.0 as 100% IP, 100% TDM or as with most customers, a mixture thereof, when and where it makes sense. Some customers may be fine with IP for remote workers, but want to keep call center agents on TDM. The choice is theirs to make on their time line. Operating System is hacker- and virus-resistant Unlike competitors who have been blasted recently on the front page of the WSJ, our systems haven’t been exposed. It’s not a surprise based on how meticulous we architecture each of our products. The HiPath 4000 is made to those same exacting standards which is why our systems haven’t been hacked yet. In more slides to come you’ll find out about the architecture and the security features that we have employed. Access Points can reside at the host site (for better resiliency) or extended via IP to remote sites – all operating as a single system. The benefits of a single system are: All sites are capable of being fully survivable via the Access Point Emergency (APE) concept which provides a processor in each and every location that the customer wants. This N+2 redundancy ensures that even the host site’s cabinets are survivable depending on the outage at the main site. Mobile users across many locations have all telephony features accessible at any site. HiPath Assistant can be used to manage many sites since it’s all one system (no need to purchase HiPath 4000 Manager). SIP for subscriber and Trunking (according SIP Standard !!) SIP-Q link to HiPath 2000/3000/5000/8000 Signaling and Payload Encryption for HFA and IP-Trunking support of different time zones for IPDA locations group call (parallel ringing on several devices) Neu Com ESY HS LP HiPath 4000 V February

Open Standards Support The Value of Session Initiation Protocol (SIP)
Why Is SIP Getting So Much Attention? Benefits to the Customer... Presence and Permission-Based Communications Foundation for Interoperability and Solution Choices Benefits to the Market... Communications Solutions Become More “OPEN” Solutions Become Less Proprietary Benefit to Developers... Developers Have Standard for Development – to Create Valuable New Applications for the Entire Market All of This Results in Speeding Up the Enterprise! Benefits to the Customer... SIP enables natural communications based on presence between people, not devices. People are reached faster, less lack time, more efficiencies. Benefits to the Market... SIP provides a level playing field enabling new vendors to deliver solutions, solutions that are best-of-breed. Big players can sometimes be bullies. With a standard approach, more innovation occurs. This innovation allows for new, great and exciting applications that will make our lives richer and more efficient and exciting! Benefit to Developers... SIP enables interoperability which allows developers to create valuable applications – not integration – resulting in speeding up the enterprise. If nobody wants to develop, any great idea will die. Creating applications that can work on any vendors’ equipment is the whole point of going from a vertical to a horizontal market. Com ESY HS LP HiPath 4000 V February
23
Open Standards Support The Value of SIP Trunks
What Is Customer Value for SIP Trunks? Now True Convergence of Voice and Data on PSTN Trunks! Reduce Operational Expenditure Eliminate the Need for T1 Gateways with Convergence at the Demarcation Point Rapid Provisioning of Trunks for Seasonal / Business Purposes Higher Quality of Service Reduce Voice Latency with Elimination of TDM Conversions Increased Features and Functionality End-to-End IP Feature Transparency Secure VoIP Trunk Technology Lends Itself to SRTP Over SIP Trunks The major benefit here is that a typical voice T1 carries 23 voice channels, giving a maximum of 23 phone calls; whereas a SIP trunk is a data circuit T1 (1.5 Mbps) and will accept as many voice calls as you can stuff into it, and transport data as well. The advantage here is that when you are not using the bandwidth for phone calls, you have extra bandwidth available. While we don’t have SRTP trunks with the public carrier, that demarcation point between the telco and the enterprise is still a point of security breach. By using a standard for SRTP, it is likely that down the road as telcos see the competition to provide secure trunks, that Siemens will be in a position to accept these trunks. Securing VoIP Is There a Business Need?
Reasons to Protect and Secure Voice Calls... Executive Discussions – Plans, Strategy, HR Employee Discussions – HR, Financial Customer Discussions – Financial, Personal, Identity In the Wrong Hands, Conversations Can Result in... Loss of Privacy Unfair Competitive Advantages Legal Ramifications As it states, there are certain users with certain needs. Encryption is not needed by everyone, but every customer has a need for specific individuals. In a safe network environment, encryption isn’t necessary, but this will comfort customers who aren’t sure whether their network is 100% secure. Since VoIP requires switches to work (doesn’t work on hubs) network traffic is only sent to particular ports. Only a user with admin rights would be able to mirror a port on the switch and that’s the only way on the LAN that the VoIP traffic could be captured. Since there can be disgruntled workers and other hackers, Siemens felt it necessary to give piece-of-mind to our customers by allowing them to optionally encrypt traffic that they felt needed extra safeguarding. Since Billions of Dollars Are at Stake, Assume That an Attacker Will Do Anything to Get the Information Com ESY HS LP HiPath 4000 V February
27
Securing VoIP Where Does Encryption Work – or Not Work?
Encrypting Voice in a Mixed Environment Useful to Secure: On Corporate IP Network Where One IP Endpoint Is Talking with Another IP Endpoint Across an Internet Connection Even without a VPN Connection Doesn’t Provide Security: PSTN Connections Are Subject to Same Risks as Before Connection to Legacy Devices – Digital or Analog Applications That Do Not Support Encryption 3rd Party Applications, Messaging, Conferencing, etc. This slide talks about when it makes sense to secure voice and when it doesn’t. Just as people could wiretap phones in the past, any device that can be wiretapped will still get the voice conversation even if the data packets are encrypted (e.g., analog phone, etc.). Applications, even 3rd party SIP ones which don’t support the standard RFC 3711, will not be able to be encrypted. Conference servers may disable the ability for phones to have secure voice conversations since all members of the conference would need to be secure. Com ESY HS LP HiPath 4000 V February

As users move from site to site, and from on-site to off-site, the Parallel Ringing feature enables a poor-man’s OpenScape, or a poor-man’s CorporateConnect, depending on what’s needed. In addition, a side benefit is that this can reduce chances of toll fraud as users don’t have full control of off-premise forwarding. Sony Pictures Entertainment
Business Needs: Enable a Highly Mobile Workforce Increase Revenues in the Communications Profit Center Decrease Network and Telecom Costs Associated with Incompatible Systems The Siemens Solution: Multiple HiPath Real-Time IP Systems and IP Shelves Supporting 8 Sites IP Networking Unified Messaging One-Number Follow-Me Service Centralized Management Software Business Benefits: $300K Savings in Reduced Maintenance Additional Savings in Network Costs, Management Savings Increased Revenue from P&L Center Bill-Backs Sony Pictures Entertainment's global operations encompass motion picture production and distribution, television programming and syndication, home video acquisition and distribution, operation of studio facilities, development of new entertainment technologies and distribution of filmed entertainment in 67 countries worldwide. Over the years Sony had acquired a myriad of incompatible Nortel and Avaya communications systems. In 2001 they decided the time had come to upgrade and put out an RFP for a completely new system. At the heart of the RFP were three key requirements: - The ability to handle a highly mobile workforce - A feature-rich system with management tools to allow Sony to increase revenues in the communications profit center - Lower network costs Sony chose Siemens because Siemens is a global company with healthy profits that can fuel aggressive R&D. Siemens began an aggressive upgrade which included: - HiPath 4500s in the main campus and several remote sites - HiPath 4300s in several remote sites - IPDA remote shelves in several of the smaller buildings on campus - CorNet IP to link the various sites - Xpressions unified messaging - Centralized management for MAC - Corporate Connect for 1-number follow-me service to cell phones Sony has been extremely satisfied with the result. They expect to save a minimum of $300,000 over five years on reduced maintenance costs alone. They will accrue substantial additional cost savings due to the elimination of their dedicated T1 lines. Centralized management further sweetens the deal. And finally, they are able to generate much higher revenue in the profit and loss center because of all the new features they now enjoy. In the end, you could say Siemens has become a star at Sony Pictures Entertainment. Com ESY HS LP HiPath 4000 V February
