2. World War I began in the year 1914 in Europe. It began between the countries of Austria-Hungary and Serbia. It grew into a global war due to treaties among many countries.

3. The Allied Powers were the countries of Great Britian, France, Russia, Serbia and Belgium The Central Powers were the countries of Germany, Austria-Hungary, Bulgaria and the Ottoman Empire.

4. President Woodrow Wilson kept the US out of the war until April of 1917. Until then the US had only been helping the Allies with food and supplies.

5. After the sinking of the Lusitania in May of 1915, the United States decided to become involved. After more Merchant ships were sunk in 1917, the US joined the war.

6. In the fall of 1918 the Central Powers surrendered to the Allies. The war was over. US ships weapons to Britain (England) and blocks food to Germany. Germany sinks the Lusitania. Germany sinks American merchant ships. US enters WWI. The Central Powers surrender to the Allies.

7. November 11, 1918 marked the end of fighting in World War I. The Treaty of Versaille was signed on June 28, 1919 and peace negotiations were completed.

8. Germany was required to give up 1 million square miles of land after the war. Germany was held responsible for the war and was required to payreparations. The German people did not support the new government that was put into place after the war.
