3 Main Point of Today’s Presentation: The girls that are sponsored by She’s the First are real people with struggles, successes, etc. - just like us. She’s the First does not want to be a faceless organization. They work hard to tell the stories of these girls, so that we can see their amazing successes!

5 Dolores L. Meet Dolores, a 11 th grader in Guatemala! Dolores is the first in her family to receive any schooling and she is already dreaming of college! She is 17 years old and lives with her two siblings and her parents. Her father is a day laborer and her mother works as a seamstress. Dolores is an outstanding student and a presence in her Starfish mentoring group who leads by example. She is the first first in her family to live outside her village and is thrilled to be following her dreams! When she is not doing homework, Dolores likes listening to reggaeton. She is also the first in her famiy to learn how to dance to hip-hop!

6 Adelita B. Meet Adelita, a 10 th grader in Guatemala! Adelita is 16 years old and has three brothers and seven sisters. Her mother works as a farmer. She is working hard in school so that she can graduate and become a nursery school teacher. Her dreams are to continue studying and go on to college where she wants to study tourism and eventually travel to other countries. When she is not at school, or helping her parents around the house, Adelita loves to draw and play soccer.

7 Aura C. Meet Aura, a 10 th grader in Guatemala! Aura is 17 years old and has six brothers and six sisters; the oldest is 28 and the youngest is 5 years old. Her father is a truck driver and her mother is a weaver. When she graduates from school, she hopes to become a home economics teacher. Her dreams are to attend college and to travel to other countries. In her free time, Aura likes to read and to spend time with her mother.

8 Brenda L. Meet Brenda, a 10 th grader in Guatemala! Brenda is 17 years old and has four brothers and two sisters. Her favorite subjects in school are art and home economics. Brenda’s dream is to graduate with a concentration in community development techniques, and to continue on to study at a university. In her free time, Brenda listens to reggaeton and plays basketball and soccer!

9 Carmen A. Meet Carmen, a 10 th grader in Guatemala! Carmen is 15 years old and lives with her three younger siblings and her parents. Her father is a farmer and her mother works as domestic help. Carmen is very active at school and in her community. Her teachers all say she is very respectful and an excellent student. When she is not studying, she helps her family out by doing the cooking, cleaning, and other chores.

10 Ingrid T. Meet Ingrid, a 12 th grader in Guatemala! Ingrid is 21 years old and has five siblings. Her sister, Lidia, is also in the Starfish program! Her mother is a weaver and her father is a day laborer. Ingrid is one of the first Girl Pioneers (Starfish students) in her town. Ingrid and her sister are the breadwinners for their family as they are excellent at beading, the crawft of which Santiago is famous. Ingrid has a quick and frequent smile, and loves to joke around. She dreams of going to a university to become a psychologist after she graduates from high school with a teaching specialty.

11 Concepcion A. Meet Concepcion, an 11 th grader in Guatemala! Concepcion is the first in her family of 11 to learn how to read or write. She also began her first internship through Starfish last year, working with ADISA (The Association of Parents and Friends of People with Disabilities) and enjoyed working with special needs kids so much she decided to extend her internship. Concepcion is a Chase Your Dreams Award Recipient, a scholarship given to one student in each of our partner schools in honor of her own kind and generous acts. This girl is going places!

12 As you can see, this girls are all amazing! They each have their own unique set of talents, and their lives have been changed greatly because of She’s the First. Not only are all of these girls She’s the First scholars, but all of these girls also have….
