3. Super Basics Divi is a theming framework for WordPress
WordPress is a content management system
Content Management System manage content, functionality and user access
WordPress is Open Source (free to download, modify and redistribute)
WordPress has modular elements:
plugins that extend functionality.
Themes that create the look and feel of the website.

4. Theme Basics Themes control the look.
They handle the styling with cascading style sheets, fonts and image choices.
They control the layout (what goes where).
Themes can also come in with special functionality to allow a theme to do more than a basic theme.

5. What Is Divi? Divi is a theming system from Elegant Themes
It comes in two licensing models:
Single use (for one site)
Developer use (for unlimited sites that are developed by a web designer)

In WordPress, there’s a concept called “child themes” themes that hold all of the layout and functionality of the parent theme, but the child theme is changeable and the parent theme is updateable. If you update a theme from its provider, you overwrite the theme. Child themes get around that.

9. Themes: Should You Always Buy One?
There are three-ish ways to go with themes:
Scratch Build (Total): Start With No Code The downsides are cost, time and expense. It takes too long and would cost too much.
Scratch Build (from blank Divi): Start with Divi and Spin-up A Child Theme Less expensive but still time consuming. It does allow the good tools from Divi.
Buy A Theme / Use A Layout This is alright, but almost every client will want some modifications. This is the cheapest fastest route but almost never happens.
Modify A Theme / Layout Now we’re talking: the theme gets you close, then you can modify it to get it right.

After we sign a client, we get information on what they want for the look and functionality.
Our team of engineers set up a development version of the site.
We start in our dev space: a subdomain at projectsdc.com
We start with “blank” - a set-up install.
It has Wordpress. It’s all configured.
All of the plugins we need already configured.
Divi is installed.
