Creating graphics for the world wide web

2. What you need to do
AO1 - Research collect and describe a range of graphics and images
AO2 - Plan the production of a range of graphics for a client to use on their website
AO3 - Create a navigation bar
AO4 - Create a set of navigation buttons (you should already have done this in the last unit)
AO5 - Create an advertising banner
AO6 - Present work to a client using a suitable format
Produce detailed notes including screen shots of procedures at each step
Have already created website, need to write a plan for the client
Create navigation bar using Fireworks, will do a lesson in this at a later date

3. What you need to do – AO1
Research, collect and describe a range of graphics and images
Find a collection of graphics and describe them using the worksheet that can be found on the OCR National webpage
Fill in the sheet with information including the size of the graphic, suitability, comments on positive and negative aspects of the graphic
Graphics should include the following; a logo, navigation bar/buttons, drop down menu, clipart, advertising banner

4. Gaining a pass, merit or distinction
To gain a pass you must collect the graphics from at least two different websites
Describe the purpose and comment on the positive and negative aspects of each image
To gain a merit you must use at least three websites
Discuss suitability of each image for its purpose and give reasons for your comments.
Give details of the size of images
For a distinction you must look at four or more websites
Discuss both suitability and impact of each image

5. What makes an image suitable?
Relative to the content of the page
Doesn’t prevent the page from being viewed
Is not the main focus
Clear pictures
Suitable for the audience

6. Bad use of graphics! Too many pictures
Advertisements in main body of site
Too many different fonts
Too many colours
Not clear how to go to next page

7. Sites that you can look at
All the above have a good selection of graphics
that you can use.
You can also have a look at your own choice of websites
