1 AO4 - Select & use tools & facilities in word processing/DTP software to produce business documents To achieve a pass grade: Create straightforward business documents, Including a letter, and two others e.g. business card, flyer, newsletter, invoice, memo, agenda, report or minutes. Can be produced using standard templates. At least one document will include graphics using more than one source, eg clip art, the Internet, scanner, digital camera, drawing package. The documents will have been checked using a spelling checker but some errors may remain. Some formatting features, eg font style and size and paragraph justification will have been used. To achieve a merit grade: You will create at least four types of business document, including a letter and a document of more than one page including tables, graphs and charts created in other software. They will include graphics from a range of sources. You will use spelling and grammar checks and edit the documents to improve & correct them so that few errors remain. Text, tables and graphic images from a range of sources will be included in at least one document and these will be positioned and formatted appropriately. There will be some consistency to the layout of the documents, although there may be some exceptions. To achieve a distinction grade: You will create at least four types of business document, including a mailmerged letter and a document of several pages including tables, graphs and charts created in other software. They will include graphics from a wide range of sources. Documents will display a consistent housestyle designed by the candidate and an extensive range of software tools and facilities will have been used. They will insert fields, including date and document information. All documents produced will have been thoroughly checked using spelling and grammar checkers, and proof read, so that they are virtually error-free, and of a near-professional standard.

2 Lesson 1 - Goals Create a letter to be sent out as part of a mail shot to companies in the South East of the UK, promoting the work of SWS and asking them to come to a presentation next week. Example companies who have used SWS Invitation to a presentation –Date, Time, Location Consistency between documentsConsistency between documents Appropriate font Appropriate colour Appropriate size Formal writing. Professional layout Spelling and grammar check! The same style of font, colour, size etc should be used on EVERY document created in AO4

5 Extension Task Spell check and proof read your letter. Screenshot showing this and annotate.

6 Mail Merge Task Copy the database from the shared area to your AO4 folder. Fill in the table with 5 records. Screenshot showing that you have done this and what it shows. Write letter, leaving places for fields. –Letterhead –Main content –Footer – date and filename
