8 Grades Not all work will have number grade
If not graded, work will have a check on it so you know it has been corrected and checked. Grades will be posted on Parent Portal within 2 weeks of given assignment date Multiple grades (participation, notebooks, etc.) will not be posted until the end of the marking period. Work sent home as graded Student's responsibility to share work with parents Work folder signed by parent and returned to school Report Cards will include numerical grades for: Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies

9 Grades Grading Scale A - 90 - 100 B - 80 - 89 C - 70 -79 D - 60 -69
A “3” in 2nd grade means meeting expectations…this means a “3” can be equivalent to an A, B, or C. Units: Personal Narratives/Writing Long and Strong, Informational, Realistic Fiction, Persuasive, Crafting True stories, Informational, Poetry, Genre Studies Writer’s Notebooks: collect ideas, brainstorm, begin stories Students will not publish every story they begin Writing Process: Drafting, Revising, Editing, Publishing Structure: Mini Lesson Independent Writing (Teacher conferences and works with small groups) Share Time

13 We use a Gradual Release of Responsibility model
Students have the chance to explore concepts before the lesson Teacher explains Concept is extended during workshop Workshop consists of small group instruction, math games, and differentiated activities Progression through C-P-A: Concrete: using manipulatives Pictorial: drawings Abstract: equations and mental math One answer, but many ways to get to the answer Math notebooks: collect notes and complete in –class assignments Calculators used in the classroom to check work AFTER students have shown their work and can explain how they get to their answers

Place Value Multi-Digit Addition and Subtraction Single and Multi-Step Word Problems Geometry Patterns Area and Perimeter Multiplication and Division Problem Solving Time to nearest minute, Elapsed time Fractions Measurement – Length ( whole, ½, ¼ ), Capacity, Mass Graphs

15 Hands on and investigative
Discover science concepts through investigations Units: Plants and Soil; Human Body; Earth Science; Forces and Motion Field Trips: Discovery Place and Schiele Museum (Planetarium) Grades come from Science notebooks and in class assignments

16 Units: Communities and Citizenship; Local and Regional History; Local Government; Geography; Economics Current events every three weeks (If you are unable to print the article, it to me and I can print it for your child. )

17 Wordly Wise Strengthens vocabulary and context clue skills
Consumable text Completed every day- 2 weeks for each lesson Lesson quiz every 2 weeks Cumulative Tests after every 5 lessons are completed

18 End of Grade Tests Within the last 10 days of school
Based on North Carolina Standards Reading (1 Day) and Math (1 Day) Math has 2 parts: Calculator Active and Inactive Concepts and skills worked on all year long Keep EOG Tests in a positive light

19 Reminders Read through Antioch Handbook located in front of the Agenda
Dress Code Shorts, skirts, dresses must be to the fingertips Straps on shirts must be 1 inch or more in width No hats in the building Cafeteria Parents can come eat lunch with their child after the first two weeks of school Birthday treats can not be home baked goods---must come from a store Birthdays only celebrated in the cafeteria
