16 Activity 5: Close reading. (Para2-3)
Read the writer’s description of the school and make a brief introduction to the school. The following questions may help you. 1. What is the classroom made of? 2. How do the students go to school? 3. How are the learning conditions for the students? ( electricity; water; books; experiment……) 4. What’s the students’ attitudes towards learning? ……. You are required to report the result in a short passage!! Do remember to use some connections.连词 This can be a sentence to start with: What I first became aware of is the classroom……

20 Activity 7: Further understanding
Find the sentences indicating that the writer is warmly welcomed in PNG in the letter. Para2: Para4: Para5: Para8: When I reach the school grounds there are lots of “good mornings” for me from the boys. When we arrived at the village, Tombe’s mother, Kiak, who had been pulling weeds in her garden, started crying “ieee, ieee”. Fresh grass had been laid on the floor and there was a newly made platform for Jenny and me… We left the village the next morning after many goodbyes and firm handshakes.
