Since 2011, the FBI has logged more than 390,000 facial-recognition searches of federal and local databases, including state DMV databases.
That is about 4000 searches a month.
The database in Utah included “over 5 million Utah driver’s license & state identification card photos,” or about 2 million more than the state’s population.
