3 Weekly e-mail Newsletters
A newsletter will be sent out to parents each week with important information, dates of upcoming events, and what students will be learning the following week.

4 Daily Folders Starts Monday, August 27th.
Main form of daily communication. Homework, conduct, Transportation changes, notes, money, etc. will be in this folder. Please place any notes or money in the empty sheet protector. It is your child’s responsibility to return their folder daily. Folders are checked on a daily basis.

5 Transportation If there is a change in the way your child will go home on any particular day, it is very important that the parent write a note and send it in the clear sleeve in the daily homework folder so that the teacher will receive it. Parents may not call and leave a message or the teacher. In an emergency or unexpected occurrence, the parent MUST call the front office prior to 2:00 p.m. On rainy days walkers/bike riders will automatically become car riders.

6 Luggage Tags Your child will have a luggage tag on their backpack. This needs to stay on their backpack all year. This information helps us know how your child will be going home. The scan card on the other side will be used by students if they need to get breakfast in the morning. This helps the lunch ladies as well as helps the line move quickly.

7 Car Riders Car riders Must have bright green sign hanging in the window. Leave sign up until the child has gotten in the car. Students should be ready to get out of the car quickly in the morning.

8 Walkers Walkers Parents must have the yellow sign to pick up child all year, otherwise they will be directed to check their child out from the front office. Kinder and 1st grade must have a parent waiting for them on the corner. They may not walk home alone. Students are not supervised once they cross the street.

9 Husky Folder Husky folders will be sent home every Thursday.
These folders will contain graded papers and other important information. Please empty husky folders each Thursday and return any papers that need to be signed the next day. Please place any papers that were in the husky folder that need to be signed and returned in your child’s daily homework folder. This is the only folder that is checked by the teacher daily. Husky folders should be returned every Friday.

10 Tardy Policy School doors open at 7 am. Students are able to get breakfast or read in their grade level pod. Students will enter their classrooms at 7:15 AM to begin their day. This can be completed in a number of ways: Independent reading Reading to a family member or other adult Reading with a family member or other adult (the student and the adult take turns reading the same book) A family member or other adult will discuss the story elements (character, problem, setting, solution). Raz kids

17 DRA DRA is a state test that identifies what each student’s reading level is at that point in time. Every student will be given the dra test at the beginning, middle, and end of the year. Each student is tested one-on-one with the teacher. The dra is a tool the district uses to identify the student’s proficiency levels in reading in the area of comprehension, decoding, and fluency.  We formally assess the students three times a year.  This information gathered from the assessment guides the instruction and students’ learning.  The levels represent the different levels of proficiency with increasingly harder text.  This will also help parents determine the appropriate books for their child to read.

18 Re-teaching/ Reassessment
A teacher shall provide corrective instruction and a reasonable opportunity to reassess failure to master TEKS on major grades. The highest possible grade that can be earned and recorded on the reassessment is a 70. The teacher will make a note in the electronic grade book of the dates and grades of the reassessment. Minor grades are not subject to reassessment guidelines. Minor grades 70% Major grades 30% (See student handbook)

19 Discipline color code system:
Each day every student begins on green. If the student is doing more than what is expected of them, they will have the opportunity to move up to gold.  Students who are misbehaving will first get a verbal warning or husky bucks will be taken. If the student's behavior continues, they will be asked to place their conduct clip down a color as a visual reminder of the undesired behavior. If the behavior is corrected they will be able to move back to green. If the student continues to misbehave they will be asked to place their conduct folder on the teacher's desk and will receive a note in their folder and a color change to blue.  If the student’s behavior become severely disruptive to learning they change their color from blue to yellow and a note, phone call to parents, or a parent conference may be requested.  If the student has inappropriate behavior after several warnings and color changes, they change their color from yellow to red and a parent conference will be required as well as an office referral based on the level of the offense. Conduct scale will be at the bottom of the bi-weekly homework sheet and should be signed daily.
