2 Even a mediocre speech will be more effective if it is presented well, whereas a wonderfully written speech can be ruined by poor delivery Having something to say is not enough. You must also know how to say it.

3 Nonverbal communication:
Communication based on a person’s use of voice and body, rather than on the use of words.

4 What is good delivery? Good delivery does not call attention to itself
Most audiences prefer delivery that combines a certain degree of formality with the best attributes of good conversation: Directness Spontaneity Animation Vocal & facial expressiveness A lively sense of communication

5 Methods of delivery There are four basic methods of delivering a speech Reading from a manuscript Reciting from memory Speaking impromptu Speaking extemporaneously Carefully prepared and practiced in advance. NOT off-the-cuff like impromptu Provides conversational quality Presenting a speech so it sounds spontaneous no matter how many times it has been rehearsed

Practice your preparation outline aloud Make a speaking outline Practice aloud using only the speaking outline Polish and refine delivery Do a dress rehearsal

Preparing for a question and answer session: Formulate answers to possible questions Practice the delivery Managing the question-and-answer session Approach questions with a positive attitude Listen carefully Direct answers to the entire audience Be honest and straightforward Stay on track
