2 Once upon a time, plantations in the south grew cotton by the bale, forced slaves to help them out.

3 Eli Whitney and his cotton gin, removing seeds, brought more slaves in.

4 Abolitionists thought slavery should stop
Abolitionists thought slavery should stop. The north supported this, but southerners did not.

5 The south believed in each states rights
The south believed in each states rights. They decided to secede and it started a big fight.

6 South Carolina was the first state to leave. Followed by ten more

7 Cuz north and south states just couldn’t agree
