1 Arts Survey Course Orientation

2 The purpose of the Arts Survey course is to expose students to the four major disciplines of Fine Arts: music, theatre, visual art, and dance. This course satisfies the fine arts requirement for a diploma in the state of Alabama. Course Description

4 Course Objectives By the end of this course, students will be able to:
Describe what makes something “art”. Identify and describe the elements of music, theater, visual art, and dance. Identify and describe the different forms of music, theater, visual art, and dance. Evaluate performances in the areas of music, theater, visual art, and dance. Course Objectives

6 Remain Quiet throughout the entire class
Remain Quiet throughout the entire class. If you have a question, raise your hand and wait to be recognized by the teacher. Remain seated throughout the entire class. Do no touch another student or another student’s things. Food and drink are not allowed in class. Rules

7 Consequences 1st Day: Name marked in binder/Warning
2nd Day: Check by name/Discipline paragraphs 3rd Day: Office referral Discipline is counted as infractions for each day. Students must sign an acknowledgement form. Failure to turn in discipline paragraphs will result in a referral to the office. Consequences

9 Beginning Class Enter quietly and sit in the seat assigned to you.
Get out everything needed for class. Begin working on the assignment written on the board. Beginning Class

10 During a Lecture Pay attention. Take notes as directed.
Raise your hand when you have a question. Do not speak unless you are given permission by the teacher. During a Lecture

11 Raise your hand and wait to be recognized by the teacher.
Upon recognition, get up and throw away your trash. Go directly to your seat and sit down. Throwing Away Trash

12 Raise your hand and wait to be recognized by the teacher.
Upon recognition, get the pass from the teacher, and go to the restroom. Upon returning, give your pass back to the teacher and sit in your desk. Going to the Restroom

13 Discussion Participation
Raise your hand and wait to be recognized by the teacher. Upon recognition, give your response. Respect the opinion of others. Discussion Participation

14 Lunchroom Leave the room by rows and line up against the lockers.
Walk in a line, without talking. Upon enter the lunchroom, remain in a single file line, behind the tape line. Lunchroom

Wait behind the tape line until your group is told to enter the food line. Do not make a mess while you are getting your food. If you bring your lunch, go directly to our assigned table and begin eating. Lunchroom (continued)

After paying for your food, go to our assigned table, sit down, and begin eating. Do not get loud while in the lunchroom. YOU WILL BE GIVEN ONE WARNING TO LOWER YOUR VOLUME!!! Lunchroom (continued)

When told to do so, throw away your trash and line up against the wall. Upon leaving the lunchroom, walk in a straight line, without talking. We will stop at the restroom before returning to class. Lunchroom (continued)

18 Ending Class Pass all completed work to your left.
Each person in the last row will bring the work to the teacher. DO NOT PUT YOUR THINGS AWAY UNTIL YOU ARE TOLD TO DO SO!!!!! Ending Class

19 Types of Assignments

20 Daily Question/Journal
A question or journal topic will be posted on the board every day. Answer the question or respond to the topic on a sheet of paper. These assignments should be answered on the same sheet of paper for the entire week. Worth 5 points per completed assignment. Daily Question/Journal

21 Notes Quiz Random quizzes based on notes taken the prior day.
1 point is awarded for each correct question. Notes Quiz
