2 2. What did you like about the Distance Learning experience?
______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ It is interesting to work and collaborate with the teachers and students from various school districts and communities. I like that it gave the students an opportunity to take classes that would normally not be offered at out school. It’s a great way for a small school like Newcomb to connect with larger schools. This was my first DL experience and it was Great. The host teacher is excellent to work with. She is very flexible and understanding of DL limitations. I think it is a great to interact with other schools. Students Love It. I like the variety the teachers, the aides and the different teaching styles. 3 3. What did you dislike about the Distance Learning experience?
______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ It always wasn't easy to retrieve copies from teacher on time for class. Lack of preparation and organization by some teachers makes the overall operation more difficult. The class went well. The biggest challenge is the missed time due to multiple days when our holiday schedules did not match. The kids didn't receive grades back in a timely manner or at all. Having different marking periods. Because of noise, sometimes conversation was hard. It's difficult for students to make up work when they miss a class. Too many opportunities to not pay attention. Allowing computer use during lecture. Not keeping students in host room quiet. Bad discipline and inappropriate behavior is an issue at other locations too. Were you satisfied with the assistance of the BOCES support team? ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ All responded ,“Yes, I was satisfied.” The support is always great! Chuck, Bob and Eileen are always available to help if needed. I was always helped immediately whenever there was a problem. Very helpful. 6 6. What changes would you offer to improve the DL program?
______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ ______________________________________________________________________ Copy assignments ahead of time. Better preparation and organization by all teachers. A little more training for some of the teachers. One problem was a school with a very different time schedule, students had to leave about 15 minutes early on various days. Limited teaching time. Most of the class only took 1 semester of a 2 semester course. Perhaps mandatory visits so all students can meet the instructors. Some school clocks aren't the same so class time might actually be 30 minutes. This class worked out well, no changes. BOCES Distance Learning Program Quality Access Support

7. General Comments If teachers need to do copies for students for class time the next day they should get the material to aide two days ahead of assignment time. We are not always able to have copies made on time. Materials should be prepared well in advance by host site teachers for distribution. I feel that some students should have been asked before being placed in the class. Some students do not feel comfortable in this type of class and should not be enrolled. The BOCES team is always very helpful and I have been doing DL for 7 or 8 years and anytime that I need help they are always ready and willing. Cell phones and other electronic devices in the DL have been a big problem this year. Maybe restrictions on these items could be put into the DL contract . I feel the Distance Learning method was a great experience for all of the students.
