6 The Personal Work of Being an Employee
Lots of people use the term “personal work”, usually referring to sharing the gospel with others.

7 The Commandments of God
Ephesians 6:5-8 Colossians 3:22 1 Peter 2:18-20 Titus 2:9-10 Col 3:22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. Tit 2:9 Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

8 The Commandments of God
Obedient (from the heart) Not verbally insolent Not taking what is not yours Genuine service with goodwill Working as though it is for the Lord Col 3:22 Bondservants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh, not with eyeservice, as men-pleasers, but in sincerity of heart, fearing God. Tit 2:9 Exhort bondservants to be obedient to their own masters, to be well pleasing in all things, not answering back, 10 not pilfering, but showing all good fidelity, that they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things.

9 Exemplifications Job – Job 31 - Master of an enormous estate
- Mindful of all of his employees - Careful not to make a dishonest profit Job 31:13 "If I have despised the cause of my male or female servant When they complained against me, Job 31:38 "If my land cries out against me, And its furrows weep together; 39 If I have eaten its fruit without money, Or caused its owners to lose their lives;

10 Exemplifications Joseph – Genesis 39, 41
- Diligent in service to Potiphar - Diligent in service to the prison keeper - Diligent in service to Pharaoh Ge 39:2 The LORD was with Joseph, and he was a successful man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian. 3 And his master saw that the LORD was with him and that the LORD made all he did to prosper in his hand. Ge 39:23 The keeper of the prison did not look into anything that was under Joseph's authority, because the LORD was with him; and whatever he did, the LORD made it prosper.

11 Exemplifications Zacchaeus – Luke 19 Working in a disreputable field
Remarkable charity Diligent to receive honest incomes Lu 19:7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, "He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner." 8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."

12 Christ’s Work Ethic Our labor is to Christ, above our income - We cannot have two masters - God rewards us – Matthew 6:1 - We need to trust His promises Mt 6:1 ¶ "Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven.

13 Christ’s Work Ethic We need to work heartily - Putting our heart into our work - Ecclesiastes 2:19-26 Working for wealth is meaningless Set your heart to enjoy your labor Col 3:23 Whatever you do, do your work heartily, as for the Lord rather than for men, Ec 2:19 And who knows whether he will be a wise man or a fool? Yet he will have control over all the fruit of my labor for which I have labored by acting wisely under the sun. This too is vanity. 20 Therefore I completely despaired of all the fruit of my labor for which I had labored under the sun. 21 When there is a man who has labored with wisdom, knowledge and skill, then he gives his legacy to one who has not labored with them. This too is vanity and a great evil. 22 For what does a man get in all his labor and in his striving with which he labors under the sun? 23 Because all his days his task is painful and grievous; even at night his mind does not rest. This too is vanity. 24 There is nothing better for a man than to eat and drink and tell himself that his labor is good. This also I have seen that it is from the hand of God. 25 For who can eat and who can have enjoyment without Him? 26 For to a person who is good in His sight He has given wisdom and knowledge and joy, while to the sinner He has given the task of gathering and collecting so that he may give to one who is good in God's sight. This too is vanity and striving after wind.

14 Christ’s Work Ethic This is very different from the world - This is how the world will know us - This is why the world has no joy Lu 19:7 But when they saw it, they all complained, saying, "He has gone to be a guest with a man who is a sinner." 8 Then Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, "Look, Lord, I give half of my goods to the poor; and if I have taken anything from anyone by false accusation, I restore fourfold."
