An Important Moment I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, Timothy 6:13

The Good Confession Pilate therefore said to Him, "Are You a king then?" Jesus answered, "You say rightly that I am a king. For this cause I was born, and for this cause I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth.” John 18:37a

Jesus’ Confession Jesus had not confessed being the Christ Then the Jews surrounded Him and said to Him, "How long do You keep us in doubt? If You are the Christ, tell us plainly.” John 10:24 Clarification – Jesus did not DIRECTLY tell the Jews He was messiah; he made it clear that to testify of Himself could invalidate the legitimacy of the Messiah (John 8:14-18). This is in part due to the idea of the prophetic Christ (Isa 53:7). Jesus did testify of Himself, but through the Scriptures (Luke 4:14-21)

Jesus’ Confession Jesus “confessed” His identity by works Jesus answered them, "I told you, and you do not believe. The works that I do in My Father's name, they bear witness of Me.” John 10:25

Jesus’ Confession Jesus expected others to confess Him
Some of the people of the NT who made the confession that Jesus was the Messiah. They did this because Jesus fulfilled prophecy, He worked wonders, He was marked by God

Jesus’ Confession Jesus expected others to confess Him
Martha – John 12 Peter – Matthew 16 Some of the people of the NT who made the confession that Jesus was the Messiah. They did this because Jesus fulfilled prophecy, He worked wonders, He was marked by God Nathaniel – John 1 John the Baptist – John 1

Jesus’ Confession Jesus expected others to confess Him
Centurion – Mark 15 Martha – John 12 Peter – Matthew 16 Some of the people of the NT who made the confession that Jesus was the Messiah. They did this because Jesus fulfilled prophecy, He worked wonders, He was marked by God Nathaniel – John 1 John the Baptist – John 1

Jesus’ Confession Why was this confession such a big deal? God had revealed it to a Gentile This last conversation was extraordinary “I have come into the world, that I should bear witness to the truth”

Our Confession Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses Timothy 6:12

Our Confession Seeing then that we have a great High Priest who has passed through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our confession Hebrews 4:14

Our Confession Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful Hebrews 10:23

Our Confession Through the proof of this ministry, they glorify God for the obedience of your confession to the gospel of Christ, and for your liberal sharing with them and all men, 2 Corinthians 9:13

Our Confession Why is our confession so important? Words are important Confession relates understanding Flesh and blood does not tell us of Christ The Father Himself! Matthew 16

Our Confession Confession means taking a position
His parents said this because they were afraid of the Jews; for the Jews had already agreed that if anyone confessed Him to be Christ, he was to be put out of the synagogue. John 9:22

Our Confession Confession means taking a position Confession means a lifestyle We are to “hold fast” to our confession

Our Confession Confession means taking a position Confession means a lifestyle Confession means obedience Are we prepared to obey our confession?

If you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame.“ Romans 10:9-11
