How fast can information travel on Instagram, Snapchat, and text? How does this affect you and what you put out there? What are some of the consequences of posting something inappropriate online? Why do you think people post inappropriate material online? How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Presenter’s level of expertise in the subject: Briefly state your credentials in this area, or explain why participants should listen to you.

Pictures you post Posts you make on social media on your page or on another person’s Language you use People/Friends/Followers that you allow into your network What are consequences of having a poor online reputation? Coaches can see it Admissions at colleges and high schools can see it You can get in trouble with school and the police Identity theft

Online video: Profile Penalty Why do you think people put too much of themselves in their profile or through their pictures and posts? List some examples of when you have seen people over expose themselves on social media. What are some common social media sites where you see people over exposing themselves?

7 Overexposure - Situation
Sally is a good student and needs to get a good grade on the test to get an A in English. She studies hard but bombs the test and gets a B. She is upset and looking for someone to blame. She gets on her class group chat and starts to text negative things about the teacher. Sally immediately regrets the texts. She sends out another text asking everyone to keep it to themselves. The next day, several kids are talking about it in school and a teacher overhears. Sally is called to the principal's office to explain herself. How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Presenter’s level of expertise in the subject: Briefly state your credentials in this area, or explain why participants should listen to you.

8 Questions for Discussion
What should Sally say? Was there any obligation on the part of the kids in the group chat that saw the original text and photo? What do you think will happen to Sally? Do you think the school has a technology policy? If so, do you think this text violates that policy? How presentation will benefit audience: Adult learners are more interested in a subject if they know how or why it is important to them. Create a checklist of both what is good to post and what is not good to post.

Create a list of social networking sites and include the following: Name of social networking site Benefits of the site Dangers associated with the site
